Had problems with poor idle, misfire and throttle hesitation. Disconnected MAF and problem went away (traction control light came on for some reason as well).

I replaced the MAF today and the car is fixed. Apart from the idle is still not brilliant. When the MAF was disconnected, it was perfect.

Does something need resetting? Any ideas?

Yep, disconnecting the battery for half an hour has sorted it. Thanks.

Rather annoyingly, it has also reset the engine fault light. Annoying, cause I just ordered a fault code reader to reset it. Wish I'd known that before.

Anyway, it is now a dream to drive again. Just took it up to 140 on the motorway, the old girl goes well.

Plus, £75 for the MAF, £38 for the code reader, still a lot cheaper than a visit to the dealer.

Thanks for the tip about disconnecting the battery.
Thought my problems were solved, but they returned and a mate suggested unplugging the maf. Hey presto all faults disappeared. Just waiting for the replacement maf to arrive now.

Well iv jus had exact same symptoms.mine was also holdin back wen tryin to accelerate smoothly.iv jus ordered a maf so im hopin this wil solve the issues. Did anyone else also notice that the mpg suffered really badly aswel?

Yeah, my mpg is shocking at the mo.
It's definitely the maf and absolutely nothing to do with my driving style

MAF = Mass Air Flow meter. In simple terms, it monitors how much air is coming into the engine and feeds the ECU information so it knows how to adjust the fuelling to get the right Air:Fuel ratio. It sits on the air intake near your filter, it's a small black housing.

A dodgy sensor will give incorrect readings making your car run rough. Do a search for MAF on this forum and you'll find an amazing amount of info.

Just had mine go, £75 is not bad considering I was told they use to be £200+ a while back

They weren't ever that expensive but the original, brand new ones were well over £100 whereas the reconditioned ones are always around the £70-90 price. If you paid £75, you got a reconditioned one, which is no bad thing as they are just as reliable as new ones.

I don't believe it's possible to buy a new one. All the MAFs available over the last 2 years have been reconditioned.

Audi will sell you one but they aren't cheap. When mine was replaced under warranty recently (month or two ago) I had the choice, but the recon one was quicker and easier to get.

Mines comin tomorrow.fingers crossed it bloody works.wanna experience my remap properly! I got mine from gsf, was 75 pound delivered.with a 25 pound surcharge.
