My 2002 V5 feels like it runs fine, but as I only got it Monday I have no point of reference. I've been running it with my phone app monitoring the ECU, and one thing I noticed is that MAF g/s are only about 2-5 when idle and mid/high twentys when cruising at 70mph.

Slimy said that the g/s should be .8 of the bhp, and I found this in another forum also, so in theory I should be seeing about 130g/s.

However, as I said, the car feels fine, no warnings are being thrown up, I have no idea if the mpg is being affected as I kind of bought it expecting it to be bad anyway. I checked the air filter and it is clean as a whistle, so I guess everything does point to the MAF, but I just expected the ECU have a hissy as the expected and actual figures will be different.

I did see another post where all symptoms pointed to a faulty MAF as well, though no errors, but did not see the conclusion of the thread.

I guess bite the bullet and shell out for a pierburg then.

MPG for me is about 23-24 in town and 35ish on a cruise. Don't know about the MAF readings :(

Thats fine, same as I get, ish now, but just concerns me the MAF is way down on what it should be reading.

Why don't you try disconnecting it and see how the car performs then? I've heard that's one of the ways to see if that's the problem. Generally, you should see a change in performance for the better when disconnected if that's the problem.

Maybe I should get some cable and do some reading on my car anyway :D

bugger, forgot about that option. My guy said I had to do the MAF swap thing or pay £116, was gonna give it back to him tomorrow but eurocarparts insist on the faulty one when dropped off, so I left the car with him to sort. Will be pissed off if the old one was ok, but atleast I know its new anyway.

Yeah, you should not have to worry about it ever. :)

Now if I can only fix my GPS signal problem all will be good in the world.

the oil was done yesterday, so having the MAF done not to big a deal, I know where I stand, and can add another service stamp to the FSH, was 4000mi overdue.

I heard that if you disconnect the MAF it runs in "default" mode with a rev-limit. Not sure if that right, as i ran mine for a year without it connected after I had an issue with mine - the performance was better than it had ever been!
I'd had a problem which was flagged as MAF, but a new one didn't correct it so i ran without it - but with the ABS light on and no traction control (apparently they're connected to the MAF!!!!). Had to get it sorted at the dealer as lights on the dash are now MOT fails.
Still runs "lumpy" from low revs though, but not about to give the stealers any more hard-earned.

if the car is idle under no load the maf reading won't be more than 5-10 g/s , on WOT in 3rd/4th should get a peak g/s figure thats when the engine is under load so sucking is maximum air. if its crusing again the engine will be under minimal load. you need to understand how the car works

Yeah, I know, it dawned on me after I got the new one that is how it would work, cost me a new MAF to realize though.
