Looking at an 57 plate fr at the weekend (main dealer) - after Reading on the other threads about big bills for the 4year service Inc cambelt - if I had it done at a local garAge would it affect any warranty claims if they arose? Think I'll try and negotiate it in the purchase price depending when it's due!

Seat only give a 3 year warranty.
If you have your servises recorded, and stamped by the workshop you get the work carried out in, that should leave you covered for warranty, provided GENUINE VAG PARTS are used

The car is an approved used seat car so comes with a 12mth warranty - presuming this is manufacturer backed - my last vw one was?

Well you should be okay as long as you have records for all servise and repair work carried out, and that genuine parts are used, if it was dealer only, you might be in a sticky situation, but as far as I am aware approved used cars are backed by manufacturer warranty.

"The Office of Fair Trading Statement
Independent repairers can carry out normal maintenance and repair services during a vehicle's warranty period without invalidating the VA's warranty conditions, with two provisos:

1.That the service is in accordance with the VA's servicing schedules and is recorded as such.
2.That the parts used are of 'appropriate quality' and are recorded as such."

Hope this helps? :)

Cheers guys - think that clarifys it nicely. So as long as it's carried out as per the schedule with genuine parts any warranty claim should be honored.
