Hey guys. Had a rattle from my gearbox on idel, just had a full clutch and flywheel fitted today and noies is still there. Ive been told the main shaft bearing is a common problem on these? Whats the best way of getting this sorted?

If the noise goes when the clutch peddle is on the floor its the gearbox input shaft rear bearing normally but change all four .

slimwiltataz ...................its the bearings on the input shaft allowing the shaft to wobble that make the noise .

Your gears will be fine if you get the bearings done ASAP . The noise dissapears when the clutch is on the floor because that is the only time the gearbox input shaft stops spinning . The reason you only hear it in neutral is that when in gear the vibration / knocking is absorbed by the engaged gears and goes up the output shaft to the diff and drive shaft . In other words ....... when in gear the input shaft has no room to slap about on its worn bearings ........ the gears hold it tight .

North West Transmissions ........... liverpool are good . They will courier your box on a pallet from your house ....... fix it and deliver back .
They did my wifes toyota 5 speed for £400 all in ( just the failed bearings ) full rebuild with every wearing part renewed ( syncro etc ) is about £750 both prices include collect/delivery

I dont know if they will collect from north east tho
