As far as I can make out from my receipts (also a 58 plate), 'major' service includes brake fluid (every 2yrs) and a/c / pollen filter change

Mine's due a major service this year, I'd assume you're in the same position

fuel filter due @40k, pollen due @ 20K/2 years, B/F/C 3 years from new then every 2 years after.
usually a "major service" is oil + filter plus air + sparks if petrol and Air + fuel filter if diesel.

thanks guys, service last year is detailed as follows on receipt:

30,000 service to manufacturers specification.

it only cost £80 plus parts ex vat so i'm assuming it was an interim. i get my car serviced every 12 months as i reach that before the next 10k miles if that makes sense. i.e. last year it was 3 years old but had only done 22k miles, this year it's 4 years old with 31k mileage.

garage 'a' (SEAT dealer) is advising major, garage 'b' (reputable non dealer) is advising interim with major at 40k miles, which for me will likely be this time next year.

so regardless of who i go to, do you reckon i should opt for the major or interim? financially i could do with going for interim due to paying for timing belt work as well, however if a major is a must then i'll go for that.

thoughts?

i personally would do the lot but obviously i only have to buy parts at trade, if moneys tight do the interim and wait till nearer 40k for filters, do the B/F/C if its close or overdue though. supply your own oil will save a few quid too.
