Hi,

has anyone heard of this ?? once a car has been mapped and then flashed back to standard stock on the ecu the only evidence of the car ever being mapped is the flash counter, i read somewhere that some mappers can write this out in there software if this is true can anyone tell me who can please ??

dunno but Custom code did not rest my flash counter as it now has a count of 7!

GIAC flash does not affect it, and I believe the same goes for Revo.

There is no set number for what should be on the flash counter, but it probably wont be at 0 even on a stock car, so if a car has the counter at 0, it may well be more obvious than if it read something else.

By the way, if you lot are worrying about dealers spotting remaps, then dont worry too much.

1) They wont check unless something has failed and they are trying to find the cause
2) Most maps can be switched "off" so that a test drive is not going to make a remap obvious

BUT

Dont be under the illusion SEAT and Stealers dont know remaps exist, and flash counter increase or not, all they need to do is read the ECU to see something is on there that should not be. I also recall David from Sere Motors saying ECU's can be plugged in and checked remotely now.

Loads of cars on here are mapped and are out and in to stealers for umpteen warranty repairs with no issues. Be aware that if something expensive like a Turbo, Gearbox or Engine fails, they will look for anything possible to avoid paying out to repair/replace it. Some people with no remap, but an uprated exhaust have seen SEAT give them the :birdy: when it came to paying up.

If you get a remap, you will always run the risk of running with no warranty on engine/gearbox/turbo/ecu if it all goes Pete Tong.

The fact that myself and loads of others have a remap shows that the risk is minimal, and the smiles for miles are well worth the cost to do it though ;)

Just be very careful about what you post on here, especially with photos with your number plate on display, and what you choose to disclose to your dealer/friends as the jungle drums can easily beat back to the person that can tear up your warranty ;)

Just sent bluefin a email to try and get confirmation, ill post the results

I asked the question 2 years ago, and certainly the answer back then was no - the flash counter is incremented every time. Thats for the TDI though, so maybe different for the petrols.

Spoke to Revo HQ (Daventry) today and they say the flash counter will remain unchanged and when the car is put back to stock its all as factory ie not a version of there own stock, so this sounds great to me !!

Bring on the revo
