If that was the case then i'd expect it to be either chewing oil or water or both and to see other signs like HGF but it's just the mayo as the coolant level is rock steady and it looks like new and it's not suddenly developed an extra thisrt for oil either!!

Ours has just done shown the white mayo on oil cap.
Only 30k miles, so surprised and worried until I have read several threads and come to the conclusion its normal on these engines if they only do short trips.
May use it for work tomorrow to and hope it clears (thats 120 mile round trip, compared to 4 mile round trip normal daily commute with my other half).
Got a local mechanic (who did my service and timing belt last year) to do a service (just oil, filter and flush) and rear pads last month, £91 for the lot including parts, £40 was labour. Always have a bit of oil left over so I reckon its about 4 - 4.5 litres to fill it up. I checked it every month or 2 over the last year and the oil never seemed to go down, only did 7K miles.
As others have said: cold weather and short trips, completely normal for this engine - just clean as much out of the filler neck as you can and give it a really good run. Mine does this over winter and goes away once the weather warms up

Yeah this sounds like the norm, ive been a couple of really good runs recently and you deffo see that the mayo has lessened with the mileages i've been doing and now the ambient temps are finally heading in the right direction - things should ony get better!
Condensation due to short runs and cold weather, clean it all off, go for a long drive, if the same clean again change the oil, very much dowt its a headgasket problem.
