Merits of a heat shield when using a cone filter?

I can't find any evidence for or against doing this - how important are air intake temperatures when being sucked through a red hot turbo and then intercooled?

Does anyone have any solid evidence? Sure the heatshields only £30, but is it needed?

I think its a better argument to say it stops the filter/maf vibrating and keeps the dirty engine air off the filter. Having a decent intercooler is the only thing that will really make a difference to temps.

I'm running an open cone, plus battery is in the boot so have a big clear space for filter. It's up next to the wing with a cold air feed from the front fog light hole. I can see intake air temp increase by nearly 10°c in slow moving traffic or stationary.
I'm planning on making a proper heat shield, not just a shroud next to the filter. It will be sealed from the bay like a big airbox fed from the fog light. Hoping to see more consistent and lower temps!
