hey everyone! just thought i'd come out and share a little project i've put together in the last few days.
just like many of you i was frustrated with how long downloading firmwares, etc. was taking. i decided to rehost all of the files myself on a fast cdn. they are all now available at https://mib.plain.gg
now this is all in beta so if anyone finds any issues please let me know.

There's a reason it's always down, they're definitely not files I'd want to be hosting on a public facing site..
It's likely you'll receive a cease and desist in the very near future, and from then what action they take varies - it's never pleasant though. It depends which brands trademark/copyright enforcement team gets to you first
Yes they did employ a security company to go after them previously then it got hosted in Russia or somewhere.

Each brand has at least one trademark enforcement company, some have multiple. They don't mess around
I recall it was Audi. Mib wiki was quite open about it. I looked the enforcement company up they were using.
Basically the files pop out of Vag systems. The enthusiasts make a library of them bypassing the dealer network which would normally apply these files if it was judged an update was required. The notes provided on their system arent reproduced leading to questions of how the files should be used and what each release fixes if it was ever published.
The more fragile Mib3 and associated control units probably I guess upped the anti of what was going up. Blame game probably developed. Vag also tightened up it's software security so tinkering fingers cant edit the uploads of mib3 files. That just left the application of these files. Vag official licenced establishments (like yourself) being able to only do things which toolboxes could do or the wild west element of retrofitters with their own custom toolboxes.
