Misfire? Sluggish, EML

Hi guys, had a problem the last couple of weeks when the weather has been bad.

Under acceleration the car started to hesitate and stutter around 2.5k revs onwards. Idling back and accelerating again the car would do the same and sometimes flash the Emission warning light a couple of times and then go off. Sometimes the EPS light (little skidding car) will come and and stay on until the car is turned off, left and re-switched on.

Noted a large pool of water on top of the injector block, and wondered if this was interfering with something - have cleared this off and car was running fine in albeit nicer weather. Have had the same problem again this morning. Noticed water near the oil filler cap - not quite sure how its getting there?

Any ideas? It had happened a couple of times before a service at the beginning of last month and I asked the SEAT bods to check it on their machine and they said there was no code. Perhaps need to revisit?

The 'stuttering' you mentioned sounds like the EGR valve.. many people here have had this problem. There is an EGR gasket with a smaller hole you can get which may help. If not, get an EGR Delete.. you will need a remap as well though so that no MIL appears on your dash.

His car is a petrol so it won't be an EGR valve issue.

Oh.. my bad! Just automatically thought EGR valve, didn't think to see what he was driving - Sorry man!

Do you mean the coil pack?
Have you got an engone cover fitted?

if it is the coil pack you mean then your coil pack is probably rusty.
Remove the water from the area , make sure you soak it all up , unclip the coil pack rail , remove the coil pack and have a look at it , if you are unsure then post some pics here , it might even be worth removing the spark plug to have a look , but make sure there is no water in the spark plug bore before you remove it.

It sounds like a missfire to me , a new coil pack or spark plug should fix.

Sorry, yes, to clear confusion I have a 1.6 Petrol. Will grab some pics at lunch and post up of where the water was previously and where it is appearing now.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem too damn on top at the moment - hopefully did a good clean up job earlier!

1) Water was around the top of th seal of the oil filling cap, and then splashed across the top of the casing to the left.
2)Slight bit of water here still. Water WAS in the gully near the connector at the top of the image, and the connector was damn too. Managed to soak everything up, and it has remained fairly clear.
3) Rubbish picture unfortunately, but connector to chassis at the bottom next to the battery - quite a bit of water near it.

Sorry to thread jack. Was out having a spirited run today and the car ran like a dog under WOT. The ecu recorded misfire on cylinder 4. So I pulled the coil pack and this is how it looks. Faulty ?????

Cleaned the coil pack with electric fluid and cotton buds. Also cleaned the spark plug in the same manner. So far so good. But for peace of mind I will replace the coil pack

Yep it looks foobarred , better off contacting antiques roadshow.
If its broken down once it will do it again.

I Think your right mate. On a better news front. I contacted SERE (Seat Dealers) and they checked my vin number and confirmed that my car was part of the recall. Booked in tommrow to have to coils checked and replaced as needed

Just ring your SEAT dealer mate and ask about the Coilpack Recall on cars with TFSI engines, then they will ask for the VIN number (found on bottom left corner of windscreen). If your car was made before a certain date then the coilpacks will be inspected and replaced free of charge.

My Cupra was registered in May 2007 and I phoned up but was told it didn't qualify for any Coilpack recalls
