Hi,

I purchased my Bocanegra in April this year with 3700k on the clock.

After a couple of months I got an emissions warning light indicating un-burnt fuel in the cat.
This happened when accelerating hard causing loss of power/juddering.

I took the car in and after a number of investigations my local Seat dealer determined it needed new injectors, this took over two weeks to sort. At the same time as this the garage replaced my water pump to prevent a "chirping" noise I got every time I accelerated hard from low revs. This had something to do with the supercharger engaging.

Got the car back and everything seemed to be working again, without the annoying chirp.

About 500 miles later (2 months) had the same emissions light come on again. Took the car in and they diagnosed that cylinder three was misfiring so they swapped the coil pack with cylinder one and got it back the next day. The following day I got the emissions light and the EPC light followed by constant misfiring and shuddering (worse than it had ever been)

Took it back and it was now reading as Cylinder 4 misfiring, The garage ran a load of suppression and compression tests and after about a week of testing came to the conclusion it was the ECU and ordered a new one.

This is where it gets good.... got a call on Thursday morning saying that my ECU had arrived but there had been a problem. My car had been broken into and vandalised overnight:censored:. Everything in the car of value had been taken, and the dash, passenger seat and passenger door interior had been slashed/stabbed with a knife. The apparent reason for the break in was to take the jack and wheel lock nuts from the boot to take alloys from another car in the garage.

The car was found in the morning with no signs of forced entry, the passenger door and boot was wide open and the driver's door was shut and locked?!?! As you can imagine I was pretty wound up by this point, but was going away on holiday the following weekend.

Came back off my holiday and called the garage the day I got back for an update and they were still working on the engine and I was told to call back on Monday.

The ECU didn’t fix the problem, after further investigation they were allowed to order a brand new engine on warranty (£5500) I am expecting the car to be ready for collection this week.

Would anyone be able to offer any advice on my situation, I absolutely love the car but am getting sick to death with all the problems I've had (Ive had other small issues with the car) Ive owned the car 6 months and its been in the garage getting on for 7 weeks. I've probably missed parts out but my I thought this post was long enough.

I’m hoping that this is it, I'll get it back and no more issues. But what could I do if something else goes wrong? :(

Oh dear really sorry to hear that. Mine was at the dealers today, and they will be having it for a week at least to sort out the rattly gearbox, burning of oil, head liner for interior of car and under bonnet. The master tech did say today that unofficially "They have had a few back" Mine is the first to be fully pulled apart. I took him out in it this morning and his reply was "Jesus that rattling is bad" so I have said have it as long as you need and just sort it out please.I love the car but just want it fixed now.

Really hope yours gets sorted, Ever think that SEAT rushed these out to lift the brand out of the doldrums? Good looking car just pants build and niggles.

Im in the same situation mate. They have got as far as replacing the injectors and water pump but also the inlet manifold seals. It then missfired again earlyer this week and the pretty lights came on. So its gunna have to go back, probably the coil packs will be replaced like with you, Seat follow a procedure when it comes to faults which they get from HQ. Hope I end up getting a new engine like you.

The thing is I love the car, the parts are VW/Audi so they'r good and for the price nothing else comes close. My fr was 15,000 for a car capable of a 5s 0-60, thats amazing. Its just the idiots at seat in spain!... the build process

I Just get the feeling this problem isn't going to go away. I've had a really good experience with seat in the past. I did have my reservations about the car because of the amount of technology under the bonnet, but thought It would be fine being VW/Audi.

Chuckb, Have you noticed when cornering at low speed, especially on uneven surfaces a knocking in the steering? I had this checked out and was told they could also feel it but its normal/inherent with the steering rack!

Don’t think I could cope with any more issues, I want to be able to drive the car I'm paying out a fortune for.

whats happening regarding vandalism?
are they going to repair it under their insurance?
or are they leaving this up to you and your insurance?

I dont like leaving cars with dealers as from the stories ive read about similair incidents the dealer never seems to accept liability and usually refuses to use their own insurance.

To me, when you hand over the keys they now have charge of the vehicle and should be liable for anything that happens until the keys are handed back and you have driven away so you have some time to check the car over.

@ Rob TSI, Yeah I have a Seat Ibiza 1.6 TDI at the mo. Don’t get me wrong, I'm grateful to have a courtesy car. I know other people haven’t been so fortunate from reading other threads. but it’s not what I've paid to drive.

Yeah the vandalism is on the garage's insurance. I think all damaged parts have been replaced. The passenger seat is only having the cover replaced; I'm debating whether or not to kick up a fuss about this because some damage must have occurred to the cushioning underneath, and it’s an insurance claim so why not just replace the whole seat?

I'm still waiting on the insurance money from the things that were stolen, but this will probably take a while (it happened 3 weeks ago).

The thing I don’t understand is how you break in to a car this modern with no signs of forced entry.

Easy.

Car is unlocked so the garage can work on it, battery disconnected so they could remove the ecu. They push it outside so it isn't cluttering up the garage while they wait for parts. Then a numpty tries to lock it, remote doesn't work so without thinking lock it with the key and walk away. Except no power so no central locking. So only the drivers door is locked, not the passenger side or the boot.

Probably not replacing the whole seat as you can't buy a complete seat only it's component parts.

Spot on I'd say.

That would make sense but the police tested the central locking system in the morning and it was working, and because the drivers door was locked they assumed the car had been locked.

But would the insurance not pay out if the car was unlocked and then the garage would have to foot the bill?

A quick reconnect of the battery and the central locking would work again wouldn't it?

Ah yeah didn't think of that.

I hope the problems go away with all the work that is going into fixing it. Seems to be a few demons lurking in this car :(

oh dear yet another boc with problems, im so glad i stayed clear when i was looking to replace my old mk4 ibiza.

Hope you get it sorted.

If I have to be really honest, you will generally only hear about the problems with cars and not really the good stuff. I got my boc in April, 6700k on the clock now and she aint missed a beat. It is sad to hear about the "few" ppl having problems with their bocs. I am sure all problems will be resolved satisfactorily and all can enjoy their cars.

Firstly, welcome back Jason ;)

Secondly, I believe buying anything new is almost luck of the draw. There's always going to be a few bad eggs among the many thousands they sell. It all boils down to the dealerships after sales service and their attitude towards their customers. SEAT want you to be satisfied with the car but you may have to jump through a few hoops to get them to your way of thinking.
