missfire 8v gti

hi, my gti has an intermittent missfire

sometimes the car starts up fine and drives really well


and other times it will start up, but if i try to pull away or accellerate it will bog down and missfire alot. This can be really embarrasing because it sounds terrible and its really under powered when its like this

but if leave it half an hour and try again it all ok again

has anyone else had this problem?

Check that there isnt oil getting into the distributor cap. That was the problem on my old car

Also check the plug leads, I had a misfire on an Ibiza 8v Gti I used to own, it turned out to be themetal cover on the lead arcing on the engine block, there was a really tiny split in the lead end which caused the cover to arc out....

check cap and rotor arm

might be worth a fuel filter change as i bet you cant say when the last one was fitted ?

i replaced the rotor arm, dizzy cap and leads about 2 months ago.....

i will change the filter when i next get a chance
