Mk1 FR-Remote central locking issues.

Hi.

I've recently bought a Mk1 FR, nice little car

I've started having problems with the remote central locking, at first I assumed it was the battery in the key. It wasn't.

It will intermitently work basically. So I could go out to the car now, lock it and unlock it via the fob and it will be ok. But If i were to push the lock button once more than it was after it was locked, the key won't work again. The red light on the fob doesn't flash if either button is pressed either.

The car will manually lock and unlock with the key.

I can get the the key to operate as normal if i take the key to bits and put it back together, kind of like a reset?

Has anyone else come accross this problem?

I had this, then the car refused to lock unless I was within 50cm of the drivers door. Now my remote doesnt work at all. I have to buy a new key fob to fix my problem.

Is that the problem then, just the key? Mine won't unlock unless I'm that close either. Did you get a price on a key from Seat?

That was my problem.. you can get a replacement key from eBay for around £30. Swap the immobiliser chips, and programme the fob with or without vag com.. then just pay someone to cut the blade. So thats what I was gonna do. No idea on a new key from seat but a lot, I would imagine!
Mine wont be getting one unless it passes its MoT next week!
