Hi, recently I've been having some issues with excessive flow in my EGR valve in my 52 plate 1.6 seat leon.

i have put a new EGR valve and its driving 100 times better, before it used to cut out when manoeuvring and when it idling the revs used to fall and try and cut out. That is all fixed now so it seems the problem is fixed.

However the same engine code saying that there is EGR excessive flow.

From what I've read this could be due too a faulty MAF sensor however i believe my car doesn't have a MAF sensor and has a MAP sensor instead?

Would changing this cure my problem? where exactly is this sensor because can get one online for £20 and if i can do it myself i will!

its doing my head in seeing the CEL illuminated all the time! Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Did you realign the EGR after replacing/cleaning it? You need a registered copy of VCDS to do it unless someone can advise you otherwise on that.

And if yours is the BCB engine code then from the front of the car looking down the MAP is top left. You'll need to take off the plastic cover and it's 2 allen headed screws for the sensor. If you need a pic let me know and I'll take one when I'm finished being rubbish at battlefield!

I didn't realign the egr sensor! This was the original one that was on before the person I got it off bought one from a breakers and put that on! I'm not sure if he aligned that one so would putting the original one on still require me to get it realigned?

It is indeed the BCB engine code! I will have a look tomorrow morning! I will hopefully find it however I might have to ask for a picture if I fail!

How much would I be charges to have the egr realigned at a garage?

Thanks for your help!

Not sure how much a garage would charge as it's literally a 2 minute job with a registered version of VCDS. Have you posted up in the Vagcom requests section to see if anyone local to you can do it?

As far as I'm aware though it needs doing as soon as it's unplugged but wait for someone more knowledgable on that to answer before you end up paying!

Sorry I didn't have more answers for you, I feel your pain on the EGR issue though as I went through it all myself and got little help. However since alignment I have not had an engine light for a few years or any of those excessive flow/high flow/bank one too lean codes.

Good luck

Ill post in that section in a minute then! If not I'll have to see if anywhere is open tomorrow!

Would I be doing major damage by driving it without realigning? Should I not drive it at all until I can get that sorted?

It's been a nightmare! Ones it gets going it drives beautifully! Was just lumpy at idle! It seems to be running fine now though so hopefully this realign will get rid of the engine light!

Thanks a lot mate you've been brilliant!

If it's just the engine light remaining have you cleared the code? If not you may find it's just from before is all. If it is just the code they reset after a while, I don't know the exact numbers but if it hasn't recurred after so many cycles it clears.

I drove mine for a while with out even knowing it needed alignment and it did no harm. I think it just checks it has a full range of travel and works out where it needs to set itself if you get me.

Where abouts are you located? If it was local to me and my copy/cable wasn't playing up I'd help you.

I did reset the code however it's come back on after a few miles!

Yeah I understand! It's running better now with this valve that isn't even aligned anyway! It's just the engine light that keeps coming on! Hopefully this will go when I et it realigned! If that doesn't sort it I'm hoping replacing the map sensor will!

I live in sittingbourne in kent! Where abouts are you?

Faringdon mid way between Oxford and Swindon, bit far to go for help with the car though! If none of those sort out the light then I'm stumped.

MAP sensor is easy though if it comes to that, you'll have it changed in half hour

Yeah that it a bit far! ill post on the forum now, if not ill have a ring of my local quit fit, mr clutch and national types and auto care!

mr clutch and quick fit wanted £40 just to scan the engine codes before and from the sounds of it, it isn't work £40 for them to do it if its only going to take 2 minutes!

Just spoke to the guys at quick fit as they're the only people open on a Sunday and they said you don't need to adapt/realign an egr valve and that they're plug
And play!

He also said that as I've got the same excessive flow fault with 2 different egr valves it's more than likely not the egr valve but the MAF sensor

Seen as though mine doesn't have a MAF sensor would I be safe to assume that if I change my MAP sensor it would fix the issue?

Jirwin, Is there any chance you could post a picture of the MAP sensor please? I've had a look and I cant see it!

Thanks a lot
