MK2 Facelift - revs question!

Dont know if anyone would know, but when in idling in neutral, the engine wont rev above 2.5k. Is this due to a limiter, or a problem?

I know you dont need to rev in neutral, but i was revving the engine due to a noise yesterday, and discovered i couldnt go above 2.5k.

Thanks, Mark

its a feature as reving in neutral is pointless, so it stops wear

Tis indeed, the new common rail. Dealer said the pre-facelift MK2 had a limit of 3.5k, but they werent sure what it was on the facelift

mine has a rev limit of about 2800 only if you have engaged a gear with the clutch depressed if its in neutral it will rev right out. Also if you want to disable the rev limiter you can tun off the ESP and it will rev right out to the redline.

I use it as a form of launch control :drive1:

As Scott said, ESP will disable the limit on the pre-facelift models and with it on, is designed as a launch control as the car has minimal wheel spin but trouble is, with ESP on the car bogs down too much in 2nd :(
