Anyone know if it can be switched off like/with traction control?

Even when you turn off the traction control, it's only really ever about 75% disabled. I found when I drove the R in February it interfered less than my Cupra does without TCS being disabled. But mine runs a lot lower and firmer on the road as well as having at least a good 50hp more power. So lots of factors involved regarding the balance all effect it.
