MK2 Leon - Very poor in snow

Sorry to hear that S2TTB.

I'm wondering how long the special 'chin spoiler' under the front of my Ecomotive (part of it's Eco aero tweaks) will last with all these solid ex-slush mounds along the middle of the country roads that I use daily. Hmm...

I went out in the TT today, its amazing how much more grip 4wd gives, and if you get over friendly with the accelerator the back likes to play. I'm toying with the idea of a volvo, mondeo, legacy all with 4wd just for the winter. For the sake of £500 and i'll sell it next year.

Didn't like driving the Leon at all on Saturday and Sunday morning. On the straights it was ok most times, but there's a lot of roundabouts on my route to work and it was very twitchy.

I know winter tyres are the answer, but they seem to be in short supply now? Bloody typical too, I was going to get some last month before I had to suddently get two new 'summer' tyres for the front, as one had an irrepairable puncture.

Driven mine in the snow for the 1st time today and I must admit, it's alot easier to drive than my BMW 330D, that was useless, although it did go sideways nicely, FWD is much easier ;-D

Absolutely fine in the snow if you take it easy, that's with summer tyres on too, I have 17" original alloys in my shed with winter tyres on and never needed them so far

This was my journey this morning, no doubt similar to lots of peoples.. probably a slightly different journey to yours in SE London??

The MAJOR snow we had last January, I drove an 80 mile round trip to work and home in it, every day, alot of country lanes too, no problems in the Leon FR. :)

.....just think yourself fortunate your not driving a REAR wheeled (drive) BMW ! ;)

Mine hasn't been too bad in the snow up here in Gateshead. I put 4 new Rainsport 2's on a month and a half ago, and they have done a lot better than I was expecting to be fair. As long as you keep the rev's low, the car does ok, but it is back to standard map now, so will look at getting a remap in the new year once I can blast it around :)

Would you guys recommend driving the Leon with ESP on or ESP off in ice and snow?

I drive around with it off in snow but that's primarily due to the DSG as I found it killed the power too much to make progress. Since putting winter tyres on I still turn it off, but it's probably not as critical.
