hi all. just a small update.......

just spent a couple of hours on the car tonight. managed to unbolt the driveshafts, remove all the wiring and coolant hoses, removed power steering front pipe and reservior. just got to disconnect the other pas pipe and then its ready to come out :) hope to remove the engine and box this weekend if the weather is ok. then will be taking it to my work and start stripping it all down.

well the weather seemed to be ok today so i cracked on with removing the engine and gearbox! borrowed an engine crane from work and got it set up and hooked onto the engine and box. removed the front subframe and then the two rear mounts and out it came (although the n/s driveshaft seemed to be seized onto the gearbox!) couple of taps with the hammer and off it came. then started stripping down the exterior or the engine and got it down to its bare self (apart from the oil filter housing as didnt have a socket big enough to remove the cooler). will be taking the engine down to work on monday and start to strip it down. still need to buy an engine stand though!! looks like i will have to buy one new :(

update time:

spent a few hours on the engine tonight. bought a stand off the bay, got it set up and mounted my engine to it. so i removed the head, sump, pistons and rods, oil pump for now. also finished lapping the inlet valves in on my agu head but cant find the tool to compress the springs so will be on the hunt for it tomorrow! will be looking closely at the conditions of the pistons and crank sometime in the week when i get some spare time.

easy to get the rods out mate. just undo the two nuts on the bottom, remove the caps and push them up and out (may want a little tap). head bolt tool was a ribe bit iirc (cant remember what size)

small update.......

cleaned up the pistons and fitted the new rods to them. block is stripped right down to its bare minimum. removed the crank today and took it to get measured and grounded if it needs it! decided not to paint the block as its a pain to clean and mask everything up! its not going to be seen anyway!! also the agu head has been sent off as found a snapped exhaust manifold stud! (im not very good at drilling them out).

bottom end gasket get arrived today from jabba, aswell as my piston rings off the bay! so as soon as i get the crank back it can all be rebuilt! just need to get the top end gasket set now and cambelt kit etc. inlet manifold has been sprayed black by myself (came out quite nice!)

moved the car into a workshop yesterday so got a nice sheltered place to work on it now :) going to take the interior out and make a start on the battery relocation and remove the sound deadening.

no pics yet but will take some in the week!

comments please........

well got the crank back today. all is ok with it and i have been told that there is no wear! not bad for doing 116k miles! all done free of charge aswell so bonus there! just need some bearings for it then i can put it back in. got my head back from the engineering shop aswell for the broken stud. they did a good job. went to fit my exhaust mani but another stud snapped off! so back to the engineering shop it goes :(
