Got the details today from a seat dealer. She got the info from seat uk. Cupra R is said to be 4wd 300 ps, same running gear as mk7 r and s3. Competitive prices IMO!

That says it all if you got the info from a seat dealer lol lol

Would be nice if true but can't see it
Once the Cupra r comes out normally makes Cupra defunct

If the Cupra was say 240 bhp and they launched a Cupra r 300 bhp model as well
Then I could see that happening.
But not 2 models directly competing for sales
From the same brand in the same market doesn't doesn't make sense economically
Also would damage the pricing and discounts for potential buyers

We will know more come January 8th

Still very sceptical about the R so soon. As Rob says would consume Cupra sales. SEAT won't be in a rush to launch one and would want to extend the cycle of the car.

I find this hard to believe but we will find out 8th January.

Sounds awesome though would love this to happen :)

I hope this is true and I believe there will still be a market for the cupra as it's like saying why buy an FR when you can buy a cupra, but people still will as price + insurance will be cheaper.

Plenty of people getting up to 10% off Golf R's and S3's. Leon's will get more discount for sure - look at any broker to see hugely discounted new Leon FR's.

SEAT UK and ES Facebook pages saying they have some very exciting launches up their sleeves this year and prepared many surprises.

Also if it is true and the 'due out in November' element actually means it'll be launched then that'd more likely mean cars wouldn't be with customers until Feb 2015 which is a fair way off if you want or need to change your car now. Only 6 days to go until we know for definite though!

10.49%?????!!!!!! Is it just me or do you also think that maybe the Golf R should have had the kit of the GTI? Looking at the two side by side the R looks a little.......well....bland. The front bumper I think is what is letting the R down as for me personally the GTI front bumper looks alot more "aggresive" for want of a better word. Just my opinion though ;)

Yeah I think the GTi looks better and more aggressive than the R too. That suits me fine though- stealth :cheeky:

One thing the GTi or new Cupra wont be able to do is this - launch aggressively especially in the wet/damp

A nice stealth bomber could give a few surprises especially if the estimated circa 400bhp with bolt ons expectation is realised with a bit less weight meaning this kind of performance can be expected :)

Back to the Cupra spec / pricing etc. This is rumour control.

My dealer (who I trust implicitly) has formally asked for clarity with SEAT Head Office. I won't share the full response as this was an internal communication, however the highlights confirm what we know so far as fact and that anything else at this stage is speculation.

- Announcement will be or around the 8th Jan including press release and dealer communications.
- This will include pricing, specification and images
- It will say when the car can be ordered
- Cupra R will not be discussed next week, any information on the R is currently speculation.

Sit tight, five days to go.
