i had no problems filling my 1.8t to the to the top of the neck after pressing the buttons several times even in the summer.

Well I did as well for a time with no bad effects, by, when a VW tech, in a forum posting, advised against doing it on petrol engine cars for fear of trashing the fuel evap system, I took his word on face value - its the kind of thing smartish people do as this was no urban myth, but the words of someone in the trade.

We have rain sensors?!? WTFFFF

Is that what that nipple is at the front of the windscreen? I thought that was the alarm sensor, i'm sure my wipers move if I push them up a notch regardless of if it rains?

yeah it does an initial wipe but afetr that it only moves when it sences rain, and the swith on top of the stalk adjusts the sensitivity i believe, correct me if im wrong...

Nice! Who doesnt like sercret compartments! its like discovering the inside pocket of a jacket all over again!

May as well put a few things i got pointed out to me by my TDi owning friend that people new to Seats might not know.

.Flick the wiper arm up a notch and the rain sensors activate and after the initial wipe, they will come on automatically when it rains.

.Your mirror 'shades' itself from bright light such as high beams or the sun.

.The button on the end of the wiper stalk flicks through your dials display mode, MPG, TEMP, CLOCK, AVERAGE SPEED, AVERAGE MPG ETC

.Pressing the reset button also on the wiper stalk located on the underside about half way down will switch whatever mode youre in (MPG, AVERAGE SPEED ETC) to your average for your current trip, good for if youve put a tenner in and want to see how far it will take you.

.FLAPPY BOOT FLAP! My mum flipped her sh*t at this, not a secret but pretty fabulous!

.For fools like myself, turn the mirror adjustment to the relevant mirror, L OR R, and waggle the Stick like you would on a ps3 or xbox handset to move it! Dont continue rotating it!!!

.ECON button turns off your AIRCON and saves fuel, this also stays on when the car is turned off and on again

.TCS resets to ON when car is started

.The VAGCOM insertion is behind a cubby hole to the right of your knee when sat in the drivers seat, pull it open then pull it some more, as a second to this, there is also an awesome little cubby hole to the right of your knee!

.You DO have a cigarette lighter! under a flap in front of your gear stick!

.Switch for the lights is also to your right! Pull it out once for front fogs and again for rear, this will beep when engine is off and lights left on

.Switch your interior light to the middle setting and it will come on when the car is unlocked and again when you stop the engine, to remove cover just pull from the side nearest the windscreen and its a 42mm Festoon, yes ebay, yes they have red ones...

.Secret fuel button when filling if pressed can squeeze more fuel in.

.The centre console cup holder can be flicked up to reveal the back end of the handbrake lever and small compartment.

.Drilling holes in the rear of your lights will stop then from condensating.

.Fit a front mount intercooler!

any additions would be welcome and i'll add them to the master if enough people are interested, like i say buying second hand with no manual, this seems an easier way for people like me to learn the buttons haha.

Anyone know how to bump this to the top of the thread or is that admin wizadry? :help:

You're wrong :p

Well for me anyway, I had a pretty boring drive up to newcastle and was wondering the second delays in between the different adjustments, ones 5 seconds, ones 10, ones 15 seconds.

Nothing to do with the rain on mine anyway.

No, it is you that is wrong!

What you are describing is how the standard intermittent wipe works, what the previous poster was quoting was what function that switch performed on the cars with rain sensing wipers and auto dipping rear view mirror.

Well i'm right, he is right haha.

Nothing was mentioned in the original post about it being primarily for the cars with rain sensing wipers :p just a general sweeping statement.

I was getting the impression that some people lucky enough to end up with an Ibiza with rain sensing/rear view mirror dipping, thought that all Ibizas had these features, if only! It was one thing that I specified when buying my wife's Polo back in late 2002 and I still think that it is very handy. Luckily Audi seem to fit that to S4 so as with my good old Passat V6 4Motion which I parted company with, my early 2011 S4 which I bought back in July, I still have these features, rain sensing gets annoying some times, but mainly it is brilliant.

what is this sensor looking thing at the end of my dash then? It's right at the front at the bottom of the windscreen?

One thought, have you got automatic air con or manual, if automatic? I'd think that that sensor is to monitor sunlight and so reduce heating when sun is shining. My daughter's Ibiza has manual air con and does not seem to have that sensor, my Passat certainly had one, think the Polo has as well and both of them have automatic air con, I have not noticed a sensor on the S4 though.

Rain sensors have to be placed directly onto the windscreen in a little shroud otherwise they don't work properly.

For anyone wondering if they have rain sensing wipers and dipping rear mirror, that picture clearly shows what the mirror assembly looks like if these systems are fitted to your car, firstly, the large round blob where the mirror fixes to the windscreen and the plastic cable way up to the roof.
