Mobil 1 5W50 for 1.8T?

Until now I used Motul X-cess 5W40, but since in summer temperatures go over 30 degress here, I was wondering if the Mobil 1 Rally Formula 5W50 would be better choice. What do you think?
It has the VW 505.00, so is this ok for the 1.8T?

I've used it for a 4-5 oil changes and it was ok, no problems, but switched to regular 5W40 for better fuel economy.
1.8T requires VW502.00 but this 5W50 oil is fine from its charateristics.

I only use Castrol Edge 5W30.

There is a load of nonsense written about oils on the internet by people (generally on forums) thinking they know everything, haven't seen anything on here to that affect I hasten to add . I did try and write something but found this which explains it far better than I can.

Basically VW reccomend 5W30, just use that. They will have their reasons.
