Hi guys,

I'm still getting to grips with different types of turbos, housing etc so bear with me. Read quite a few threads about different types and sizes but I'm really confused now lol

About a year ago I blew the standard K4 in my mk1 LCR. Decided to get a GT2871R Eliminator kit as it was simple to fit and the garage said my standard internals would be able to handle it. 3 months later my rods went  so got a full engine rebuild with forged pistons and rods, valves, etc and bored it to a 1.9. The GT2871R has now died (due to a low oil issue) so I need options on what to do now.

A company has quoted me £1100 to rebuild the GT2871R :-o or for around £1700 they can rebuild it with a different inlet and exhaust housing (T3 I think?), new manifold and downpipe. They said this will help with airflow, produce more power and help with the spool time?

Ideally I want it to run around the 400bhp mark but I don't want to push everything to the limit as I'd like the car to be a bit more reliable. I mainly use the car for driving round town and having a bit of fun on the backroads so I think a larger turbo may produce too much lag for me? Do you think a GTX3071 would be too laggy?

you can get a GT3071 for less than they want to charge for the 2871 rebuild?!?!?!

what manifold is it on now?

I know. It's a bit ridiculous. Currently got a high flow manifold but has the k04 connector. I'll need to get a T3 manifold whatever I go for right?
I believe the gtx3071r will spool quicker than the gt3071r but would it still be too laggy for me?

I dont think a GTX71 will spool faster than a GT71. If I was in your shoes Id give Arnold @ Pag Parts in NY a call and try his billet 71 wheel. Does wonders for my car.

I have'nt seen any evidence that the GTX equivalent will spool faster... more just flow more from its billet comp wheel

i'm curious to no what power you made with eliminator kit ? i'm waying up the idea myself , because this morning really annoyed me , the fact my mates mk4 golf gttdi130 remapped 176 bhp , nearly beat me i just about edge it. anyway got a guy off mk4 golf forum that will fit ie rods new piston rings , cambelt , waterpump fmic manifold and downpipe for £500 if i supply the parts but i curious to no how much power can you get from eliminator gt2871r

Well before it went bang I only got 305bhp from it and that was with the turbo running about 97%, a 3" intake and big port head. Only think left to do was an intake manifold and cams.

Sorry to hear that...
GTX in any format gives between 300-500 rpm sooner spool on GT3076R and under turbochargers. That # grows exponentially as we go up in size in Garrett's offering.
