your talking about swopping gearboxes on a 1.4 for more speed... i dont wanna shoot you down but live with it and when the time comes upgrade for a more powerful car.

i see where your comin from m8............. but (tell me if im wrong) the only real next ibiza to go for is a 2.0 gti  and the insurance aint goin to be cheap on one of them with one years no claims bonus be it 8v or 16v, so im plannin on keeping my current car for at least two years and was just wantin to have a bit more power to save me money on insurance but im only a newbie to the forum, so ill accept all ur advice but at the end of the day i wnt 80bhp from my 1.4s :p even if it does seem silly and pointless , im not havin a dig at you but thats wat i want to do and thats what ill do ;) :D

I eased out 80bhp out of my 1.4, all that had was a custom induction kit, back box and a power boost valve.

But seriously make do with what you have until the time is right.

i'm in the same boat as you mate. i got a 1.4 8v and am looking to increse bhp to around the 80-90 maybe even 100 mark if i can. more air, more fuel bigger exhaust better spark, and a remap is the way to go.

i had the 1.4 lovely motor! pretty fast too!

honestly though, maybe go down the route that i did, get the cupra bits on it and be all show, its not all about speed ;)

i loved the 1.4 its bullett proof! and mine was end of the line 99 version so it was a cupra with the little engine already..

just have fun :)

Thats exactly how I feel about my 1.4. Aint really had any problems with it, the main one the usual pedal box issue but that was really it. They arent exactly slow either.

:cartman: ain't gonna happen - it's going to cost you more than you can buy a 1.8T Mk3 to do that.

I thought that, until I drove something faster.... which is most things in all honesty

I think you'd be suprised at the price for insurance on a cupra. I upgraded from a 1.4 to the cupra with zero no claims and it only cost an extra £200. Maybe get a few insurance quotes for a cupra and see.

2.0 GTi is only group ten i had one at 20 full comp for under £600 notes, as for the 1.4 80 is achieveable due to the fact that most VAg engines push out more than book but you will spend money thats not worth it.

Best way would be a 90bhp TDi, think theyre only group 7 insurance and much easier to persuade more horsies out of those, good mpg too.

I have a ibiza 1.4 so i know that it is not quick at all, and not that quick compared to most 1.4s either. It will cost serious money to make it quick. 8v gti would be the best option.

Has anyone looked into a swap with the 1.4 16v out the polo? Dont know how much work/money it would require (prob still more than the 8v gti + insurance)
