Just wondered what everyone's view is on MOT washes....

Would I be able to get under the car/wheels done myself with a normal or power hose without jacking it up?

I have heard some places do 'MOT washes' which include hosing your engine... this does not sound like a good idea to me!! :headhurt:

The only thing I used a power washer for on my Glanza was to wash the inner arches and angled it under to wash any salt off, same with my Cupra. Anything else was only ever a two-bucket wash (unless I was desperate!) - You can get into the arches without jacking it up unless you're car is very low!

As for the engine bay I just used a damp rag to get the majority of the dirt off the surfaces then used some silicon spray to shine everything up!

Power washing your engine bay is not a good idea! :headhurt: Looks great when it`s just been done, but it will wash away greases and lubricants that are supposed to be there, and cause water ingress problems. Oh, and lots of rust will follow!

If anything they would steam clean the underside of the car so they can see everything. This is what we do for all HGVs that go to a VOSA test station for MOT they must be done well or they refuse to inspect them. So I imagine some garage do what we do but on a smaller scale obviously!
