not being funny either mork but fact remains i still have to purchase a cable from the audio lead companies, and want their re assurance that it will work and not waste my money.

i am not ignoring any advice given here and am very thankful for it, but no one has said for sure, only guesses. if it is can bus or any chance of it it seems you can really do come damage getting the connections wrong. so forgive me if i dont want to take that risk and just plug it in without knowing for sure.

no one has yet solved this issue that i can find, so i hope to do this so that others in this position then know for sure what solution works.

should get a definate answer soon, and can let you all know.

cheers all

Result,

as some of you guys thought the head unit isnt can bus.

you can get a controller lead £30 incl postage.

im ordering one today and will let you guys know how i get on.

Success !!!

Got the controller through today from cables express and it works great.
The only buttons that dont work are mute and cycle, but all the rest work fine. They did warn that this maybe the case.

Heres the adapter you need for the Controls :-

http://www.cablesexpress.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=108&products_id=244

Then you add on the right interface for your head unit, came to £30 incl p&p.

Here are some pics i took while installing it. (click to make them bigger)

The new controller plugged in to iso blocks.

Heres what the new controller looks like.

Head unit goes in, I did try to fit it where the tray normally goes, but the tray doesnt fit in the upper slot.

And the finished article. Only slight drawback was a little gap between the head unit and tray. Its a little tight squeeze to get all the cables in behind, but with a bit of organising it all went in.

you can fit the radio at the bottom and tray at the top only thing is you have to turn it around to do so meaning tray has the little holes and the bottom looks better that way in my opinion and gives you more room to stuff wires down that way!

Im onto this as my FR will be ready end of this week and i dont really wanna lose use of my sub or my steering controls, seeing as FR Rush is only up the road from me, might be able to give me a hand, n maybe clear this business up a lil.

*EDIT: right thanks to the bloke for that ebay link i'll be aquiring a vag-com lead for less than £20 result.
More importantly, as FR_rush is using the kit from *that shop - to lazy to scroll back up*, caraudiodirect are doing adaptors as listed above, ive checked the technical data they provide and am going to go for these to following items (you require both)

Click for ICT 28-638 steering/stalk control adaptor - Car Interface

InCarTec Alpine Adaptor - Radio Interface

It works out a little under £40 once you add P&P (£1.50) so not to bad, fingers cross'd but seeing as C.A.D - offer a 7 day return with refund or exhange for no compat adaptors - what have i to lose, will keep you in touch. Im aiming to retain as much functionallity as pos but get away with using my trusty alpine and then invest in a better amp/sub :)

Hopefully fitting next weekend, 8-9th July.

Its "A" for the adaptor from cables express, they do work out cheaper than car audio direct.

If you call cables express a guy called paul sorted me out there.

But be aware that the mute and the change source buttons stopped working on mine. but i wasnt too bothered about them.

Cool, cheers mate :)

Don't think i'd bothertoo much about the mute and source buttons, as long as the volume etc worked :)

Right a small update, i today have recieved my adaptor from cable express yes i changed my mind decided to give them a go (same kit as FR_RUSH has used. Fitting on monday.

Looking forward to having my controls working with my alpin HU, if it works all ok that will be two of us with the thumbs up.

:funk:   :bleh: :worship: :rocker: :starwars: :fool:   :clown: Now can anyone guess the kinda mood im in?

New 12inch sub and amp + my HU (alpine mp3) works fully with the FR steering control (all 8 of them:p ) it was all fitted professionally which was my choice over me cocking something up.

So with the KIT "A" from the cablesexpress people did the job nicely.

SO there we have it, hope this helps everyone.

Regards,
Matt

Glad to hear it all worked, and you got all the buttons too good good.

i think it depends on your head unit and the signals it can take.
