Hello all,

although this has been discussed quite a bit there doesnt appear to be any instructions on how to get the bogg standard unit out.

there dont appear to be the normal side double holes or even single slots appart from inbetween the Head Unit and the tray below.

How do you get the Alana unit out?

thats what i thought however there dont appear to be any holes at the side.

ive got the normal head unit keys for most stereos but this one has got me stumped

It a flat key with hooks on it

14th product down or 16th, VW/Audi Radio Release Keys

there are two very small flat slits on the bottom of the HU if you look at it from the front, looks like part of the design TBH. Go to your local car audio shop, try to avoid the usual big name shoo, if you can.

Where i got mine gone, they did it for free.

yeah i saw those slots, just tried the give it a tugg method, surfice to say it didnt come out.

may try a local guy to see if he can get the steering controls working also.

cheers.

OK well just found out there isnt a controller available for CAN BUS wired cars at the moment so that scrubs the idea of putting in an after market head unit and wanting to keep the steering controls.

well, according to ross-tech it is, i came accross this problem when wanting a vag-com cable.

they said it is CAN BUS, going to check tonight, audio guy said if its a green control lead then its ok, if its a big black one its no go.

I dont think anyone has followed this issue through yet, so im on a mission.

damn controls, if they were not there in the first place i wouldnt want to keep them :)

hmm, well just called a seat garage who has confirmed they also think my 05 ibiza would be can bus.

he also added hes not aware of anyone whos changed the unit.

he mentioned that can bus relies on an all round car voltage that gets upset by after market devices, if upset it stops things working.

an audio guy mentioned maybe in a month or so an adaptor will be released for it, but would be in the region of £100.

My 03 definately wasn't and I doubt Seat would make wholesale changes to the car's internal architecture like that during the life of an existing model.

mail previously recieved about can bus from ross-tech supplier

Thank you for your email.

To communicate with 2005 and newer cars, you will require support for the new CAN protocol. I recommend our official VAG-Com interfaces as these offer all the features of the dealer diagnostic tool and support all VW Audi Group cars from 1996 to current date.

it appears cars 05 and over are can bus i hope im wrong though as everything is a quater of the price if its not

I thought the ibiza was dual k-line. and would of thought it would remain thatway until the mk5 like the leon/new leon has like mrcoyote says i cant imagine them swapping it half wy through the mk4, they would wait for the mk5

right, from what i can gather, this may or may not be right.

the the ibiza has a can gateway (moduel 19) which is used to control the canbus. but the moduel is controlled by the dual k-line system as are all/most of the other moduels.

so yes the ibiza has can bus but weather it is used through out or in the same way as the new leons etc are is a different story.

like i say this may be right, but is probably wrong!!! just the way i have interpritated it.

maybe Uwe could shed some light on it.

ok got the head unit out and found the interface for the contrl.

doesnt look abnormal so maybe usual one as suspected, will see what the car audio people reckon.

2 x standard iso blocks and a blue and green block im guessing is the control so maybe onto a winner

lol. not being funny, but so far you're ignoring all the people that know & basing your decisions on experts.
