hi all,
im trying to get my ipod working in my leon fr 58 plate. im using usb connection under the drivers seat and nothing it just charges my ipod up, tried my iphone 3gs and it does nothing!! any help?

Hi Picnic,

Sounds like you have the USB connection rather than the iPod one, this means you'd have to put some mp3's on to a USB stick to make it work.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm though....

Matt.

thanks matt
so when using a usb stick can you flick through the songs using the radio?

Just had a nose in my manual and it looks that way, however I don't have the USB version so I can't say for sure.

Yes

Not sure about the iPod connection under the seat as I have a newer Leon which has the USB and aux port in front of the gear stick. To use iPod/iPhone with full control you need a special cable from Seat which plugs into the dock connector on your iPod/iPhone and into both the USB and aux port on the car.

The cable is quite expensive but BMW do the same one (their cars use the same interface) and it's about a third of the price. I'll get a photo in a sec.

You are using the USB connection - this cannot be used to play sound unless you buy as mentioned above the USB connector through seat.

However just do what I did - plug into your aux with a jack to jack converter - I bought mine for £3.99 at Maplin. Works a treat, don't need to use the USB.

Guys

I see you talk about ipod and USB connectors. My car has the ipod connector under the drivers seat, its not got any connectors by the gear stick area like your pics(maybe earlier than that was introduced - its an 08 car). But what I cant find out is how to load up the HDD, the handbook is just confusing me. I've tried burning a disc full of MP3's but the unit just ejects it saying disc error.

Any help welcomed

link snipped cos I'm not allowed to post them, apparently

Sorry for digging up such an old thread, but we pick my wifes spanking new cupra up tomorrow and I did a search on here for info on how we connect our iPods (well the wife has my old iPhone, I have a classic 160 iPod). There seems to be an awful lot of threads discussing iPod connectivity and advice differs depending on whether the car is FL or pre FL. I'm a little confused now

Our car has (will have) the USB/aux cup connectors but a standard head unit. I didn't spec the media system as I generally steer well clear of factory sat nav, but I did specify factory blutooth. Do I just need the cable in tehguy's pictures / video or is there some other way? I assume that is a genuine £70 Seat cable you used tehguy? 70 quid for a cable!!! I read about a similar, cheaper BMW/Mini cable but I'm still unsure whether that works 100%?

Any advice? I would like to be able to play music from iPod or iPhone, display the track info on the head unit and (bonus) if control via the steering wheel works. The simple cheapo Aux cable looks like a recipe for a crash.

Apologies if I am going over old ground, but I have read a lot of threads about this today and am none the wiser.

You do just require a lead to be able to interface with the stereo and iPod/iPhone. You can buy the SEAT one for just over £50 from SERE motors on here. Or get the BMW/Mini one which is also 100% compatible.

I had the SEAT and worked well but decided the USB with a memory stick was easier to use and got the Tom Tom kit for my iPhone as my Sat Nav.

I am lead to believe the standard stereo (RCD310) you can stream music via your iPhone and the bluetooth interface. Just need to select Aux on the stereo and bluetooth streaming and have the iPhone working in iPod mode. Downside is you have to use the controls on the iPhone to change tracks ect. It works on the Golf and Passat but not heard of anyone trying it on the Leon

Thanks for the tip about Sere, I'll go and have a look in their subforum.

Regarding the bluetooth streaming, that sounds great. I will give that a go on the mrs phone tomorrow and report back.

Just a quick heads up, someone over on babybmw.net is selling the BMW USB cable for £25, or kev from Cotswold BMW will sell you a new one for £38 delivered.

Used to have a 130i before my leon!

Cheers Nik

Snap although a lowly 120d/FL 118d without your aural delight :(

£8.50 are ok but don't tend to last very long but at that price you have nothing to loose!!!!

I am using the BMW one, think I paid about £10 on ebay for it, works a treat.
