MPG indicator and lumpy idle

A coil pack went and was changed the other night (thank you Hoochy!) Since then the car is showing an overall MPG of 9.8 at best Fuel isn't being used at this rate I don't think so I assume there's a fault somewhere. For example sitting on the motorway in 5th @ 70 is showing 11.1mpg lol. Hmmm that's not right. Idle is also very lumpy? Car is running 'fine' though I have disconnected the battery and it has made no difference.

Any ideas?

Have you run vagcom on it ?? Might give an insight as to anything being a miss !!

Sounds like a maf issue to me, same symptoms I suffered.... lumpy idle and **** mpg.

wayne, whaty mpg do you get out of a tank? i get very poor, about 160 max!

Even banging through a 11lb bottle of gas I can get 190miles from a tank!

Usually a indicated 27-28mpg, usually get 230-240 miles to a tank but I used a 11lb tank of gas and the tank made 190 miles.

Can easily get 250 miles to the tank with sensible driving, or 220 with a mixture of driving. Non stop hard driving see's about 200 miles. As for the lumpy running and poor idle it could be another coil pack breaking down, or a plug.

Then it could be at the other end of the scale and be a MAF.

I smelt a burn/maybe an eggy smell from around my car last night! The car also seems to rev up and down when sitting still in traffic... Do you think thats the MAF or Coilpack? The car doesn't jump around and I think that is what happens when the coilpacks go!

Sounds like an ignition fault to me, coils or plugs.

Is that coilpack????? Mine does exactly this, smells like burning occasionally, smells like egg occasionally!!!!! Revs bounce around, i've been told it's the MAF as the fault code was Bank 1 lean plus my boost hasn't been consistent. It's getting a service inc spark plugs mite aswell change coil pack and maf.

How expensive are the coil packs.

The symptoms are similar for coils/plugs and mafs, vagcom is great for diagnosing the problem.

Ive had 2 coilpacks go on me and you would definately know, car chugs along misfiring with next to no boost and the engine light flashes on the dash, but I remember mpg being pretty bad up to it going so could be another one on the way out

Well thats wot i thought.

Still runs ok, doesn't boost like it did but will always boost over 11psi and sumtimes decides it'll boost to 16psi.

Coilpacks break down over time, the more they're loaded up the more they suffer. Ive got 4 coilpacks that run fine until I use nitrous, then they fail big time. But off gas they appear perfect.

This wot i thought so as i am gonna be getting DP and prob hi flo cat i wasn't gonna worry about it. I was told my MAF was screwed as VAG COM said Bank 1 lean or something, but Essex_Cupra has just listed all the symptoms i have!!!!!!!!!
