Multiple Questions & Queries

Rather than create a ridiculous amount of individual threads I might aswell bundle everything into one;

- Firstly, the majority of the time the car idles badly, rise's and fall's between 700-1100RPM iirc, and the trip computer is giving ridiculously low readings usually around 6 MPG (which it clearly isnt running at).
Disconnecting the MAF fixes the idle and restores the trip computer to usual MPG figures at idle, just checking with your kind selves that its definately the MAF before I splash out on a new one :).

Also does anyone have a link to a website that sells Bosch MAF's? Searched high and wide but cant find anywhere that sells genuine Bosch MAF's.

- Secondly, im currently running OE airbox with OE filter and looking at changing to a Jetex cone and appropriate Forge hoses. Can anyone who has gone from OE induction to Jetex comment on the change in noise?
Clearly there will be increased noise higher up the rev range but I quite enjoy the quietness of OE induction at low RPM.
Current mods if it helps are;
k03s
Forge FMIC
Forge TIP
Forge 007p
Forge Cold Side Relocation
Blueflame TB 200 Cell
Jabbasport Stage 2 Map

- Lastly, does anyone have the parts numbers for;
The jacking point covers, only need one but id hazard a guess they come in sets.
The plastic covers for the reclining mechanism on the front seats.

Cheers in advance to anyone who can answer any of my queries :)!

jacking point cover part number is 6K0853456B GRU OR 6K0853456C GRU depending on which side and they are £10.85 from david at sere motors for the price i went and ordered a full set

If you like OE, how about running a smoothed airbox / cold air feed into it with a panel filter such as Green? You'll get slightly more induction noise and more airflow too, albeit not as much as an open cone would give you...

Regards the MAF, definately sounds like its buggered! You've done the usual checks, maybe log airflow on vagcom if you have the bits to do this? That'll confirm if it's playing up.

A fault code scan with VAG COM should also help point out a duff MAF, though it would appear likely it is buggered.

Euro Car Parts and GSF both sell Bosch replacements as reconditioned units in exchange for your old MAF and about £60

Cheers for that mate, just sent them a parts order for the jacking point covers and the reclining mechanism covers :).

A green cotton panel filter replacement was the way I was going to go, but the threads in the Airbox are destroyed so im not sure wether to go for a cone instead rather than replacing the Airbox with a new one.

It seems to be intermittent at the minute, but I guess thats it slowly dieng of death. Havent got round to buying VAG COM & cables yet personally, ill have to borrow it from a friend and see what it comes back with!

Cheers Robbie, I had a look on both sites before but couldnt find anything, ill have another look now and if I still cant find anything ill call them instead :)!

No worries. A cone filter will make a lot more noise on boost than a panel filter, but if you're just driving around normally then it's not really any different. I'd go Jetex personally

Thats what I was hoping to hear :) I dont mind extra noise on boost :)!

Where've you got your MAF positioned with the cone filter pipework, just after the filter itself?

I've got a silicone hose between the filter and MAF, which then joins onto the TIP.

If possible you want a 6" straight between the filter and MAF to help aid laminar air flow

If you can fit that between the TIP and wing yeah, though I doubt it's possible.

I used to run TIP --> elbow --> MAF --> filter, so not ideal for laminar airflow as it would have still been turbulant coming from the filter but it's not the end of the world.

Otherwise just put the MAF onto the TIP, then an elbow onto the filter, though you'd need an ali coupler.

Cheers for that Robbie :) The last setup seems the most logical as it kind of replicates the standard arrangement.

*sigh* Another morning, another problem, usual drive to work no issues no lights, pull up behind a car pulling off and both the ABS & TC lights came on (which I believe is safe mode? Boost was restricted to 5ish PSI). Pulled up at work and turned her off, turned her back on and just the ABS light is now on...

Any ideas? The initial safe mode I guessed was caused by the MAF, but now that just the ABS light is showing im not so sure.

You need to get it on VAG COM to see what's going on really.

Scan for fault codes and log the MAF readings to see what it's registering, then go from there.

You'll soon find it's an essential tool with these cars :)

You used to be able to get it directly from the Ross Tech website but it looks like they've taken the links down now and replaced it with VCDS Lite, which I've personally never used.

Could be worth trying that, else PM me and I'll email you an old version.

VAG COM Cables have arrived but unfortunately they arrived too late as im away all weekend in Wolverhampton :(.

Another problem has raised its ugly head! This time however, nothing to do with the MAF.

Opening the car through central locking, every lock opens fine apart from the drivers side. It was intermittent at first but its constant now, I know for a fact its just the door pin/locking mechanism sticking and nothing electrical, as the door pin itself pops up - just not far enough to indicate its unlocked.

Take the door card off an investigate with a fresh can of WD40? :)

VAG COM Results are as expected, havent had chance to log the airflow yet as the heavens have opened :(!

In continuation of my last post, whats the best way to remove the door card? Carefully pop off the clips one by one?

ETA: Just noticed ive ran the test as 6L not 6K, oops! Not that it should matter for a fault scan :).

*sigh* Been to eurocarparts and splashed out £70 on a new MAF.

Problems still havent gone - still idling rough and showing ridiculously low MPG figures.

Completely took the airbox out and tracked the MAF cables as far as I possibly could and I cant see any issues.

Been trying to log g/s on VAG COM but everytime I try I get the message "No Response from Controller", ive tryed clearing the fault code but cant due to the VAG COM restrictions on unregistered versions of VAG COM.

Any ideas anyone?

Any help is greatly appreciated :).
