My car is broken again :(

I was driving down a road with a speed limit of 20mph, doing about 10 mph turning left at the turning. I then heard a snap and the sound of my wheel rubbing. I immediatly stop jump out and see my left front wheel pushed back touching the wheel arch!

The car wouldnt go forward being driven or pushed, as the wheel would rub/push against the wheel arch. However when pushing the car backwards it was absolutely fine, turned fine etc.

Managed to push the car backwards into a parking spot so it will be sleeping there for the night!

Any ideas on whats wrong with it. I imagine that the mechanic who fixed it didnt tighten something properly or a bolt snapped?

could be a wishbone problem, but as u just had it done yes I would say mechanic has done a number on your car

and the price wasn't exactly cheep was it

as long as your still alive m8 the same thing happend to me in a works van
in mine i think it was the wishbone if you were doing speed this realy could of been the end of it stick to speed limits

should not be 2 expensive

Spoke to the garage this morning and they got me to drop the car keys round as they said they will recover it.

Later today I should know whats wrong with it.

Now that I think of what happened I could have died if I was doing any speed. I guess im just a lucky boy.

The ibizas days might be numbered. Depending on how things go from here I might get rid of it. Really really like the car though, so would want to swap it with another ibiza although the parents arent too keen on it. Either way financially I have taken a hammering.

Sounds like your wishbone has come adrift - either it's broken (unlikely) or one of the bolts has come loose or wasn't done up to start with.

As well as fixing it, I'd suggest you'll need your wheel alignment checking, and a thorough check that nothing else got damaged - eg CV joint & boot, brake lines, etc etc.

if its the same corner of the car as you have just spent over a £1k on i'd give them hell!

if the paintwork or bodywork is damaged as a result of the mechanics incompetence then he / the garage should foot the bill of repairing the wing and any replacement parts required!

imo i wouldn't let this persuade you sell your pride & joy!

Yep same corner. According to the secretary I should get the car back tomorrow. Will give it a good propper once over. The old dear wants me to take it to a MOT garage for them to check out or go to the AA. Would you say this is worthwhile?

Certainly dont want to sell my car. Im in love with it. I love the way it looks, drives, sounds and because there arent many of them on the roads. Im definetly head over heels for it lol. Plus I would loose too much money.

you could get another garage to do a pre MOT check or just pay for 1/2 hour labour for them to check it over.
imo if your repair garage has forgotten to tighten up something as important as the bolt which holds the wishbone on , i'd be a bit concerned about the standard of rest of the work carried out!

I don't trust garages. If I let them service any car, the first thing I do when I get home is retorque the wheel nuts.

Remember one Ford mail dealer putting totally the wrong oil in an Escort I once had , so it rattled something awful when starting from cold as the oil wasn't circulating properly. I had to drain it out a week later. That's why I try to do a service myself if I can.
