My Cars Broken!

Was driving the other day and as i was going around a roundabout the car made a strange thumping noise and sort of lurched a bit. Best way to describe it would be to say it felt like I had went into a huge pothole, but there was not actually any pothole there. Pulled over to the side of the road and checked under the car, couldnt see anything wrong at all. Drove the last 1/2 mile home very carefully and as I was going up the slight incline towards my drive the car felt as if someone had dabbed on my brakes for a moment. It slowed down but the engine revs never dropped or anything. So called the AA and they took my car to Arnold Clark in Akexander Parade in Glasgow. I called them up and explained what had happened. Next day I went in and they said they could not find anything wrong with it. I mentioned to them the day before that I thought it might be suspension related but I wasnt sure. The mechanic said there was definetly nothing wrong with the suspension, no cracks no wear no any of the components. I told him that he was wrong as my suspension, maybe the bushes, had worn severely since I had put on my coilovers as the wheels move backwards and forwards quite noticeably. He asked me to show him what I meant and I grabbed the spokes of the alloys and flexed the wheel back and forth. OBVIOUS extra movement! He said thats not abnormal. Yeah right! Its so bad that if I brake sharply there is a whacking sound as the wheel moves back before it cant move any further and then the car slows down! I can get it to do this at about 2mph by simply sharply dabbing the brake!

I asked him if he had driven it and he said "yes, 5 miles" etc etc. I told him something was definetly wrong as I would never have the hassle of having no car as I need it for work. He said he was right.

Drove away and had not got half a mile when it happened again but this time more violently! My brother who was a car mechanic for about 10 years was behind me and we went into a car park and started driving the car around on full lock etc and braking from about 20 to 0. After 3 minutes there was a very loud bang! Not engine related, something else. Car still went ok though and I had no real choice but to drive it home. Tried to reverse my car out of drivewy to go and play football and it wouldnt select reverse. As in the selector would simply not allow me to put it into position! Drove forwards ok though. Then it was getting stuck in 3rd etc etc. Next morning I managed to get the selector into reverse but the car drove forwards still in 1st gear!!! Now Im periodically losing and getting stuck in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear.

To make matters worse cos of the holiday period all the garages have a backlog and I cant get a courtesy car! So Im going to be without my car for at least 2 weeks! I was raging and phoned all the dealers within a 100 mile radius in a bid to get the car to them if they had a courtesy car. No luck, all booked for ages. SEAT UK couldnt help me either.

Here was me under the illusion that I would be covered if anyhting happened to my car under warranty! Las time I listen to a salesman I tell you! LOL

Sounds like a rant doesnt it! Im not, just sharing the pain!:(

It does sound very 'bush' like though.... but check engine mounts too. - and make sure you've no debris in or around the shift mechanism blocking the cables.

How low have you gone? It could be an issue with the drive shafts putting too mush strain on the gearbox, hopefully just a mount that's gone stopping you from selecting the correct gears with the 'box moving under the car (it doesn't take a lot of movement to knock everything out of alignment, you should try it on a rear engined car that's a nightmare). You may find they won't cover it under warranty if they can show it was a direct result of your mods or improper use / maintenance.

Not sure how low I have went. I got it done at Star Performance. There are pics here so you can see visually yourself. Not that low. It never rubbed at all in the arches ever until the bushes or whatever started to wear and then the wheels rubbed a little bit because the backward movement of the wheels makes it rub in the arch.

You don't look to have gone overly low and Star have a good reputation so the extra stresses shouldn't have been too much.

You were scaring me earlier! Hoping whatever it is is going to be fixed quickly!
