I am a bit confused. Last week, the clutch on my Bora was slipping when I pushed the accelerator beyond a certain point in the high gears. In the highlands of Scotland over the bank holiday weekend, I had to choose my overtaking opportunities carefully as I didn't want to be pushing too hard due to the slipping clutch. I even got details on a replacement clutch plate from Allards ....... now it has stopped slipping altogether!

What is going on here? If it slipped as much as it did, certainly, it is positively on its way out and slip more , not less??

Thanks.

Mine went through a phase of those symptons but hasn't done it for a while. It was when the weather was colder and damper. Could it be that the highlands moist air was causing this??

Yes, I thought that as well but I then thought that the clutch is enclosed and should not be that affected by temperature/humidity differences??

Should be interesting when the weather gets cooler and wetter then ......

The clutch slip on my Ibiza and on the Passat came and went like that. It will come back at some point, probably as we get nearer to winter when the weather gets colder, so I'd suggest you plan for getting it sorted.

I managed to get my Ibiza clutch done under warranty and then drove more carefully afterwards to stop it happening again (although the person I sold it to got it slipping almost straight away after I'd covered 60+k miles slip free!), and I got the map on the Passat knocked back a bit.

My Ibiza did exactly the same but it disappeared as soon as it came and never returned. It slipped like hell when it was doing it and I thought it would definatly need a new clutch but all of a sudden I couldn't get it to slip again no matter how much abuse I gave it. I can only asume the friction material on the clutch plate had a layer that wasn't too good and once this was worn away it was fine.

My clutch on my car has stopped slipping this week.. it has been for 2 months, especially in 5th and 6th gear. I had just brought a new uprated friction disk to have fitted last week as well.

I've tried pushing the car several times in top gear and low revs, and it just won't slip.

I will keep monitoring it... thought it may be weather related, but it has done it when hot and cold outside, and the engine was warmed up both times.

Wondering whether the disk plate has worn even now?
