My exhaust is rotting!! Claim??

I recently had my car M.O.T'd and they have put an advisory on for the exhaust

It said "rear exhaust, part of the system deteriorating"

Basically i have a Powerflow catback system and after closer inspection, the back of the backbox where it meets the centre section has corroded and looks a bit rotten, end of the centre section has the same problem where the two clamp together

Am i in any position to ring powerflow up and either complain/claim/request a new system??

They do state lifetime garuntee on stainless steel exhausts even though the system is 4 years old!

if you have got the garentee then you can take it back as it has a life time warranty! they use a cheap sort of stainless steel that rusts. i had the same problem on mine, had a middle box replaced a while ago. had mine over 5 years now. not impressed with it but as i say if it starts blowing then its straight back to have what part needs changing.

take it back to where you had it done, with reciept, which is the garantee and they will change the parts that need doing! a lifetime garantee means exactly that!!! BUT and its a big BUT, if its just surface rust and not blowing then they wont!

Thanks for the link Fl@pper ill do that

and cheers for the info above

at the moment i dont think its blowing, but its been advised on my mot as system deteriorating, ive had a look and it looks pretty bad

im going to get under it this weekend and have a proper inspection

Problem being i bought the car with the system already on, but i have the reciept for it and it does say 'life time geruntee' on the reciept but the place is about 200 miles away, although they do have a websit called Top Gear

Not sure if it will help mind as Jason is from powerflow - oops sorry :)

did you say yours was Longlife ?

And every Longlife stainless steel exhaust system comes with a no-nonsense guarantee. No pointless check ups every year. No nasty “small print”. Because Longlife is a franchised network, in most cases you will be dealing with the owner of the business. When it comes to support and backup, nobody beats Longlife.

So confident are we of our product and workmanship, we offer an industry leading lifetime guarantee. Longlife is the ONLY custom build brand to offer a transferrable lifetime guarantee, not a limited 'lifetime of ownership'.

looks like the blurb has ya covered at least though.

there are powerflow exhaust places scattered around the east midlands area! take it to another one and say you had it fitted. if you got the receipt then thats the proof they need. DONT say you bought the car with it on!!!

It was a mistake but he didnt mention id etc at first he said i need just the reciept

then he told me details will be on computer so i need to prove i bought it

can i take it just anywhere though??

it was bought from TopGear in St Albans which is who i contacted about it

was thinking of contacting powerflow but thought they would just say to sort it out with where it was bought from

Lifetime guarantees can be a funny subject when it comes to exhausts.

As I found out when my full stainless system started blowing.

The weld that connected the pipe to the centre resonator had cracked and was blowing.

Contacted the company about the problem hoping to get it sorted trouble free, especially considering the amount they are new.

I was then told that only the "stainless steel" sections are covered under the lifetime warranty, welds are not, therefore the welds are only covered for 12 months!

Ended up having to buy a new centre section.

For the lifetime warranty to be valid, its only applicable if you are the original purchaser of the exhaust, and the original receipt of purchase is presented.

Of course, it was all written in the small print, but I with many others just assumed there were no little if's or but's.
