Hi All,

Right I've read all the threads on DPF and I've just been going through the same problems, re-gen, limp mode, flashing coil light etc I've also read all the different notions and theories such as driving the car on longer trips but that doesn’t seem to make any difference as I travel 80miles to work and back once per week and travel to London and back once every weekend etc etc blar blar blar.....

Anyways I can only derive the following conclusion:-

Q1- Why buy a FR170 TDI?
A1- For performance & economy

Q2- Why buy a FR170 over the FR petrol
A2- Economy

Q3- Is it really more economical than a 2.0TFSI when you have to drive up and down the motorway every week in 1st gear regenerating the DPF at 3million rpm equating to 1mpg?
A3 - No

Q2- Why sell a car that isn’t suitable for certain types of driving with out communicating this?
A2- F**k knows

Conclusion:

Anyone want to swap my FR170 TDI for an FR2.0TFSI???

The end................

p.s I work for a fuel injection company, why the F**K did VAG bring such a sh*t product into production with out sufficient testing and validation!!! What a bunch of Wan*ers!! Please feel free to comment…..

Now that's magic. Bet your stealer didn't make that feature available to you at point of purchase!

The 170 TDi lump sounds like a winner from the outsiders perspective. I was expecting it to be mighty. Sounds as much a mighty PITA as it is a mighty drivers car. What a shame as it looks great on paper.

The diesel is a great engine, it`s the dpf thats an afterthought:headhurt:
In theory the pd is better and more powerfull going by vag`s previous claims over the years comparing it to other manufacturers going common rail.
Trouble is it`s not good with the emmisions which is why they have gone and ditched it, I would expect the new one has less issues with dpf faults as it runs cleaner. Even pd with the dpf the emmision figures aren`t that good.
They never should have fitted dpf to the pd imo:doh: If you do short journey then it is not fit for purpose, Touch wood mine has never shown faults, but I am one of the few. It does miss sometimes though:censored: (I do 22 miles each way to work)
Economy is crap to say the least.Down to the dpf strangling it.
Wished I had bought the cupra in hindsight:whistle:

Can you only get the DSG box in the FR petrol? thats "flappy paddle gear changing" for those of us that watch Top Gear, right?

Flappy paddle and stick Flicky too :p

The FR TFSI DSG has exceeded all my expectations in the 6 months I have had her, all the fun of the fair

Gentle Carousel ride in Auto mode
Catapult in Sport Mode
Space Rocket in Manual Mode

I must be one of the lucky ones too -

2 years, 30k miles never had the dpf light on once :)

makes 2 of us nick, 21 months, 31k miles and no problems. most days i only have a 30 mile round trip to the station and back too. and its REVO'd ;)

I agree and I love my FR TFSI for it. :)

I understand that the 'S' mode not only makes the mechatronics change down more eagerly and hold high revs for longer, but it also makes the accelerator pedal more sensitive... so it feels more eager than just changing down and staying down gears. Highly recommended.

That said, I don't have a problem with diesels and their 'narrow power band'. I enjoyed driving my previous (PD) TDI Golf and probably would have opted for the PD170 FR had it been available with DSG. Of course I might have faced issues with the DPF in that case though...

I believe I'm correct that the new common-rail diesel FR is available in DSG flavour?
