Well my pride and joy, after ordering a brand new renault megane sport 250 as my friend works for renault and got a very very very good price I was refused finance on the basis I missed a payment to vodafone the year before... sucks considering I had never been to chine but been charged 300 quid for calls made in china which vodafone would not listen to me about but anyway...
I was left with a dilemma, no meganesport meant I had to choose something used which I could afford to purchase. I looked at Focus ST (early registrations), Golf GTIs (early registrations), Megane R26 (by far the best hot hatch for handling with its LSD but for some reason insurance was a joke), and the Leon FR
The next thing I had to consider is build quality because I was doing 30,000 miles a year (fuel card though so thats ok, also got new job doing 15,000 now) so this ruled out the focus and megane. Left with two VW based cars same engine, 4 years between them age wise for the same money, 3 door golf or 5 door leon.
Obviously this was a no brainer, insurance group 14 (compared to 17), 5 doors, and 4 years younger than the golf the leon was the car for me. I found a nicely priced example in Milton Keynes and asked my uncle to go and test drive it which he did, my uncle owns dailysportscar which is a FIA racing online magazine and does the commentary for Le Mans on ITV. He said the car was gorgeous, paintwork was a bit iffy, but DSG box was a beaut. I immediately put the deposit down and jumped on a train to milton keynes to purchase the Leon completely standard with Bluetooth and 18s as options for £8000. The reason for the price was 60k on the clock however I figured with regular services and majority motorway driving this car would last. So car with no warranty but only 3 years old I started my journey with my Leon. Soon enough i wanted to start modifying and did so with an APR switchable map, I never had this on the RR so not sure on figures but guessing about 235-240. I then purchased a neuspeed p-flo induction kit and had the revo switch at Awesome, power delivery so much better than APR but felt a tad slower...
At christmas I decided to get the exhaust done, so I went all out with full decat, went to car planet racing in warrington who mainly deal with japanese cars and they were quite excited to work on this little hatchback. The outcome is amazing, lovely sound (although they did look at me funny when I asked them to remove one of the centre silencers
) This was done with the cupra R diffuser and twin exits. I will post pictures in next post in the thread...
So this made way for the Revo Stage 2 which produced 280bhp on the rollers give or take a few ponies with over 300lb/ft of torque (rollers claim 380lb/ft but this is dubious). in the dry I struggle with power in 1st and 2nd, however in the wet I can produce wheel spin in 4th gear
so I know there is definatly a shed load of torque (i do have the WALK kit which helped with Stage 1 but seems inneffective with stage 2)
Next will be the BSH mounts and then i will be saving for twelve months for my next project with the car
Pics in the post below, enjoy
£10,000 is total amount spent on exhaust, mapping, mods, and car
Figures on roller were 278bhp and 380lb/ft torque
