Think it was an old AA van but it was being used by a couple of guys for kayaking. Nowt to do with my very reliable but slightly thirsty new car. Managed to get 44mpg on my run up north which for its weight and power is pretty good. Reckon I'll being doing well to get 40 on my normal runs. It is fast though.
That would be a dream for me to achive 44mpg! im lucky if i get 20-25. Although when i was on the roadtrip to inverness earlier this year, i did manage to get 52.2, not got a clue how it happend!

44mpg was for a mostly extra urban journey. On town driving it would achieve mid 30's which is fish plaps for a diesel. It is the 170 bhp model though and fair shifts. To be fair best I ever got our the ibiza was 52.5 and that was on some long journeys driving like an old man. Computer averaged about 70mpg though. The computer lies through its teeth!
we were on the m8 and a9 pretty much all of the way to inverness, so that could be how i achived it! never took it above 50mph also my computers gubbed in mines so just had to do simple maths when we got there!
Yes the long roads do help. I went via Loch lomond, Glencoe, Fort William and Laggan up and down hills. Never accelerated hard but still hit 60mph occassionally. Also included a few runs to and from work where the car barely heats up and a few short journeys when I got there. For a big lump of a car im very impressed. Especially when you see the amount of crap it can take in it. Shifts too when I want too. Some say it can hit 120mph and still have plenty left........ so they say.
Yeah thats the way that we came home, and i dont want to think what my figure was after that! I didnt bother to try and work it out. Well i suppose the extra 50bhp that it has compared to the ibiza does compensate for the extra weight that its carrying.
And i hope thats one thing your not going to try and figure out, except if you decide to go to Germany
