I had this problem last week, puff of smoke from steering coloum, as of concern and the indicators were going haywire. Got a tow home and to the garage on Monday.

As stated above, indicator stalk was faulty. Got a replacement from eBay as dealer wanted £140.
Car now home, was putting on plastic cover yesterday and again puff of smoke. Indicators fine this time. Should I replace the wiper stalk too?

If the car goes on fire, that's a bit extreme for me.
can I his drive it till it breaks?

She's cost me a fortune of late and am thinking of cutting my losses to be honest

I would have bought new ones, they come as a pair from the dealer, with a column bearing too, hence the price, new parts last much longer, and once you've fixed one bit it's done!

Try to keep at her, there's not many good ones left these days!

Thing is I don't have £140 + vat + fitting dude.

With all the other stuff needing done am absolutly skint!

AND she has had to go back to the garage this morning as the front drivers side calliper has locked on

seems to be an easy changeover for the indicator stalk.
My garage charged an hours labour to change over.

I have a replacement wiper stalk to do at some point.

Just leaving well alone for now.
