Hi all, as the title says my warranty is up soon i think and its due a service / mot i think, now is it worth getting the MOT / Service done before the warranty is up then that way if anything is broke or needs replacing i can get it done on the warranty or can you not do that? i aint got a clue as this is the first time ive had a car where i have warranty and stuff.

I was gonna take it to seat a while back to look at as every morning when i let the handbrake off it made a weird noise and the brakes were as it sounded to me rubbing / grinding but it dont do it no more, it might be cause it was often sat on the drive for a while as i dont use it for work at the minute and its just nothing to worry about

my warranty is up in March and i've just had the service carried out and will be taking it back for the MOT just before it runs out - if you have any sort of rattle or anything best get it checked out before the warranty runs out!

if it's really worrying you think about extending the warranty - i'm currently looking into it and i'm awaiting my dealer to come back to me about it

For my Ibiza FR its up to 41000 miles now and its only on a 56 plate though I am not expecting to have to do quite this mileage anymore.

I was quoted for another year or up to 80000 miles that it would cost 400 approx for the extended warranty. If I do come close I may take them up on it because I dont think I would want a clutch going out on me in my last year and then having to pay for that to be replaced.

hmmm maybe, but then how would you be able to tell? And dont you only have the stealers word for it? How could I prove otherwise?

If you read the Warranty books it will say things like clutch arn't coverd. especialy after 41000. a clutch is listed as a consumabal, same as brake pads and disks.

I just had a quick look and aftermarket warranties have the option of covering such things. I didn't know but i'm now thinking of getting one.

Hi

If interested in extending your warranty passed 3 years, I would have a look at Warranty Direct. When mine turned three years old, I had a good look round and they were by far the best on price and coverage
EG. aircon covered as standard, while the SEAT one charges extra to cover it (well at least they did two years ago).

Had the alternator go in year 4 and that alone just about covered the cost of the extended warranty. All I had to pay was a £25 excess. And no hassle claiming / getting the work done.

One trick worth mentioning, is get a quote O/L but don't actually purchase straight away. A week or so later, they will phone you and with little prompting, offer extra inducements if you renew there and then (EG. I got another 10% off and 13 months coverage for the price of 12).

the AA do a mechanicle breakdown warranty for around £50.00,car has to be fully serviced to qualify, think you also have to have the normal breakdown cover as well, but for around £100-£120 you'll be fully covered. :)

Just got a quote - £350 a year for mine! No thanks :)

Hi.. Not too sure who that's with. But "yes" that sounds about right if that's with Warrant Direct.

To be totally honest, when it comes to extended warranties, you pretty much get what you pay for. If you consider what the price of spares is these days (EG. over £200 for a new 90A branded Alternator for a Diesel) then the price starts to look not too bad.

But it's a bit of a lottery really. It's like car insurance, bloody expensive but if you have an accident, it's obviously well worth the money (if you see what I mean).

need to watch as well, what is cover and what's not. Some will hit you with a wear and tear contribution if your car is over a certain age. Also some don't cover "consequential damage", this is where an uninsured part (EG. alternator belt) breaks and damages insured parts. There is a lot of "small print" type exclusions etc. etc. to watch out for as well.

Also depends to a certain extent how reliable your particular cars been. In my particular case, I had so many things go wrong in the first couple of years (including a blown engine!) that I felt it was worthwhile. But you pays your money (or not) and takes your chance.

When I looked 2 years ago to extend mine with SEAT, it was the best part of £400 and they wanted another £90 to cover the Aircon! And I suspect it will be no cheaper now. But maybe as R1dd1ck says " got a really good relationship with my dealer so its worth it", in my case... nearest dealer is over a 100 miles away and even when we had a local dealer, they were rubbish. So not an option for me.

That was with Warranty Direct. Agree with everything you say, just can't justify paying that for another 'insurance' personally. I've probably tempted fate now saying all this lol..but car has been fine since I've had it and being a VAG, it should have some amount of reliablilty in the future.

My Ibiza has cost me £2500 over the last 8 months. Just had a new gearbox, car is only 4 1/2 years old so don't trust the reliability. . Wish I had purchased an extended warrenty now!!!
Won't be going near another without the dealer laying on a free extension to the warrenty. Otherwise Honda here I come!!
