MYSTERY!! Seat Ibiza 59 1.6 TDi - noise after long-ish drive from behind dash

Hi All,

Just purchased my 3rd Seat Ibiza - this time a 1.6 MK5 (59 plate) Diesel 1.6 TDi. Immaculate service and MOT history.

Drove it some distance (80mile round trip) this weekend and when I came to a halt (engine still on) there was a strange noise almost like the car was 'panting'. Came back to the car after a few hours and on turning on the engine the noise had gone - but reappeared when I got home after an hour driving.

Poked about under the bonnet - can't hear the noise at all! Only when I'm inside. Nothing seems to change the noise - it's very consistent - not affected by putting on the air con/fans etc.

It's so subtle and hard to explain I've recorded it and put it on YouTube - you have to listen carefully - it really does sound like a big dog panting! Is gets slightly louder when I go in the glove box - but this site won't allow me post a URL! Will try and upload later

Any thoughts? Idles fine, starts fine, no warning lamps, recent MOT - Very confusing!

Looked at the video, sounds like the water pump or an accessory off the engine to me

I got the same engine and I can hear a similar noise to yours but when driving at a constant speed with little throttle or when coasting.
The noise that mine does it's more like transmission whine, very subtle, and it's not constant it's like yours comes and goes.

No idea what it is.
