So this question may seem so mental that I will be committed, but... I'm not looking for a problem, as it's just a very faint sound that is causing no issues, I'm just curious as to what this is and I'm hoping one of the boffins here can answer it...

After getting out of the car, without locking, there are very quiet sounds that I can only describe as the noise of a dvd player/ disc drive being accessed, not a mechanical grinding noise but a series of chirps or bleeps. They appear to come from the front around the engine bay and last about 5 minutes, occurring every few seconds. They definitely sound "digital" in nature. Do I need to see a psychiatrist/ is my car trying to talk to me?

It's an MY16 Cupra 5 door. No optional KITT or under bonnet budgie.

Im sure the majority of vag cars have an electric coolant system which stays going around 15-20secs after the engine shuts off so it could maybe be that but I know the exact noise your speaking about

 Thank you! It's good to know I'm not going mad. I have noticed that it doesn't "tick" loudly when cooling like older cars so this sounds right! Cheers hutchy!

I'm not convinced it's the electric coolant pump but I have heard sounds similar to those you have described from my 1.8TSi FR (EA888 engine).

Either we are both going mad or both quite sane. :)

Yeah my 60 plate bocanegra had the ticking sound so I'm not sure if maybe the newer cars have the electric one

My neighbour came round to ask me what the noise was! I hadn't heard it up until then. I have no idea what it is, but one day I'm going to stand there with the bonnet open and find the culprit

I know the sounds. Think the clicking is relays as for the other noise all I can think is coolant pump. My old Ibiza 1.2 tsi made the same noises

I have a similar hum too but it only lasted 3 or so seconds, sometimes just opening your door with ignition on would start the noise, even my old 2003 Ibiza did it, I always assumed it was the door locks or something? Maybe I'm thinking of a different sound to yours? But the description of a DVD player is spot on!

its most likely to be some of the valves ( throttle, EGR etc.) doing a learning/cleaning cycle. Most modern cars do this after the engine is stopped.

I too have this noise! I also had it on my 06 Fiesta, as lots of others have mentioned probably something to do with cooling!

Modern cars make some odd sounds after you've turned off ignition. It's typically the ecu switching on the cooling system for the turbo, vents closing and various sensors;all tripped by the charge in your battery and the ECU.Don't worry about it. If you see flames, then you need to be concerned.

On my last car I had an owl that hooted for about 10 minutes after switch off ( Citroen DS4) and my FR has a dolphin that clicks and whistles for a while. On a separate note, I bought my lad a new Beko fridge freezer and his came with a hump backed whale.

I am convinced that these sounds are coming from a air con or coolant circuits as gasses contract

You might have more joy if you post in the mk2 forum, someone there will likely be able to give you an answer :)
