You don't need to. they are all the same frequency. 433 or 434 keys are actually rounded up/down depending on who's badge is on them. The frequency is something like 4.335 or something.
You just follow the instructions in the manual and it works easily. just like pairing a bluetooth headset, needs a sequence to make it work.
Its easy and not worth £90! I'd want an oil and filter change thrown in for that.

Yep, I was thinking that. But still intrigued as to how they use a photo to do it.

TBH they probably don't, they just wait for gullible people to send the address of a car thats easy to break into, then they releive you of your pride and joy while your snoozing away.
Get it done at a locksmiths if you want to keep your car.

How long time would it take to programme a remote key?

I'm getting a new key (I only got one when I bought the car and the other is getting replaced by the dealer).
They claim they need the car over night. (Does it really take that long time?)

(I thought this would be the right place this question... if not please move it)

(I found the answer myself.)
According to Jenning SEAT (Middlesbrough) it takes ~1hour and will cost £65+VAT!!

stealng the thread

sorry, just on the key issue I only got one key when i bought my car but i didn't get the plastic keyring which has the key code on it; will this make it harder for me to get a key cut/coded?
where can i get the key code from and would i be expected to pay for it?

cheers

Getting the key cut isn't a problem, Timpson's did might without any issue.

To get the new key coded may be more of a problem, depends on how nice your local Seat Dealer is, as to whether it'll cost much. It's pot luck really...see if you can butter up the parts / service person??

To program you put your original key in the ignition and turn it on (so the dash lights are lit)
then with the new key you get out the car and lock it manually then press the unlock button on the new key

this worked for mine.. make sure you have the transponder chip in the new key tho.

My key is pretty shagged so I might do this also.

I've got the window up/down plug in, and it's very hit and miss as to whether or not it lowers them. I'm assuming the open button/signal is slightly faulty.

From what bigalot said he doesn't have a spare key to swipe the immoboliser chip from, so will have to get that coded to the car, what you're talking about is pairing the key to the central locking module...

Is the transponder under the logo on the key fob? I've ripped my key apart and can't find it anywhere!

I'm in the same situation as bigalot (don't have a spare key) so I don't have a immob chip that I can take from that ket. So I guess I have to get that programmed by the dealer? Is that right?

(They've offered to do it for free but it's just a hassel to be without the car when they do it, as they've said they can't do it while I wait...hopefully get a courtesy car though)

If you don't have a spare key, but have the original, surely program it first, then just switch the transponder over!
