Need advice! Ibiza mk4 TDi130 air intake vs induction kit?

I've got a mk4 ibiza TDi sport pd130 with Revo stage 1 remap and was looking at getting an induction kit, maybe a powertec SL1, but am generally hearing that I’d be better off with a pd160 air intake and a panel filter. Are these parts easy to fit, and where would I get a PD160 air intake/how much would they cost? Also has anyone got any experience of induction kits on VAG diesels and what they sound like and how they affect performance? Any advice would be appreciated! :D

I've had both and tbh mate, I'd go for PD160 & Panel Filter. Basically, if you open your bonnet you will see your intake - it's just a straight swap, remove the screw, push in the two square pin type things and remove the original intake, then replace it with the PD160 and screw back on. It's just a bit fatter and will suck in more air.

Here is my PD160:

The panel filter is just a simple task of removing the screws from your airbox, taking the big paper filter out and installing a nice slim green cotton panel filter and screw back up!

I would wait and keep looking at the for sale section for a PD160, pick them up cheap off there but about £70-80 from dealer.

Hope this helps mate.

Cheers for the help, called up SEAT and they said it was £88 for the pd160 air intake which does seem quite a lot! Wanted to get it done over xmas as well so probably can't wait for one to appear on here. BIG GM - how did you get on with the induction kit, and where did you put it? Slightly worried about heat soak if I got one and left it in the standard place next to the battery.

£88 I wouldn't pay that mate, keep checking for sale section every couple of days, I got mine for around £15 2nd hand but it's only a pipe so it doesn't matter.

I had the BMC CDA induction kit but that was on my PD130 mk1 Leon so there was more room. A lot of people re-route the intake to a fog light but didn't want to do that. Didn't get to much heat soak but I felt the car had massive gains with it on. Still for the money, the pd160 & panel filter are just as good.

Cheers for that mate but i think the maf size is bigger on the diesels, so wont fit :( Im only selling up for when the s3 maf goes on mine where i will need a filter with a bigger outlet.

I have to admit you can tell the extra air going in with green cotton panel on standard intake, I have a cone filter under my bed ready to go on and will be interesting to see if that makes any extra difference, I guess just the noise tbh! but will report back ;)

Read the TDi club forum faq and they'll tell you it's all bunkum mate. A leon size intake system with paper filter will flow enough for the 3.2litre R32 engine so it more than adequate for all us @1.9. The k&n and foam filters do not have a large surface area and so suffer more from dirt clogging over time. The reason the performance filters flow more air is because they have larger holes through and therefore allow more dust and sh1t through into your engine too. ie not doing the job! Their prefered upgrade solution is a paper filter with a MASSIVE surface area.

Cheers for the help guys, would love a BMC but am on a tight budget so it's out of the question! Did it sound any good? Or is trying to get a diesel to sound good a bit of a lost cause lol. Let me know what the cone filter is like!

Nah mate, didn't sound any better, if anything, made it sound more like a tractor. I sold the BMC not long back for £100 to someone on here, shame mate.

They can sound good with a miltek exhaust. Mine sounds rather good for a diesel with one fitted. They are rather pricey though! Tried a cone on my old S**t 206 for fun and it made it slower and much more tractor like but that was a mechanical injection not an ecu engine.

Yeah mate I would have snapped it up! Not really after the tractor effect lol, but still intrigued as to what the powertec or a k&n would sound like for some reason!

How much was the militek then? Don't have the cash now but would be interested to know for the future. And also does it look any good with a standard bumper, cos wouldn't it just sort of stick out underneath?
