Need ecu help in bedford area

Hi

I've got a mk2 ibiza gti. The ecu died, so it's been replaced with one from a breaker. Is there anyone in the area that can sort the immobiliser so it works with the original key?

The Immo is seperate to the ECU on the Mk2, so if you've not changed the immo, it should all just work?

really?
Well I've changed the box under the wipers on the drivers side. I take it thats the ecu?
I tried to start the car earlier, but no joy. could smell petrol though. Maybe I should look into it further

The ECU is under the wipers yes...

If you can smell petrol, you just don't have a spark

check the wire to the coil, and the coil to the dizzy

Cool, thanks for the info.
I gave up today, assuming it was just the immo. I'll have a more in depth look tomorrow

Update

I've plugged everything together & the car runs - for 1 sec before cutting out again
Reason I'm told is the ecu still needs matching to the immo thats in the car. Can anyone do this or do I need to visit the dealers?

I don't think that's the case....

I'll test it later - but it's not the kind of thing that starts for a second or two.

Will disconnect my immo & see if it does what you say.

I'm sure mine won't even turn over

I had a search about. Would it be this that needs doing?
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=40892

Guy I spoke to said the sequence is something like this:

firstly, the immo check for matching keycode (mine has one so this will be fine)
Next, the immo will look at the ecu to see if it matches. If not the system will shut down (engine dies).

Does this make any sense?

Yeah, the link to the ECU swapping thread is for Mk3 Ibiza's onwards - they have a (decent) immobilser

Bit too dark now to check the immo on mine.....

What's the number on your ECU?

I've just wondered if it's the 'wrong' one?

Can't remember the number but both ecu's are exactly the same.

It does look like something electrical is shutting down. Every time I start it, it will fire then stop as if the spark has been cut.

Edit - just noticed there's a specialist in bedford (tts). Maybe I should just take the thing to them?
