Hi Would appreciate if you can help

Have an ECU problem with 2002 1.6S LEON Petrol and would appreciate any help/guidance anyone can offer. I am a total novice so please bear with me.

The car has an issue continually going into LIMP MODE and a diagnostic check has highlighted that the Engine ECU is not supplying appropriate juice. It looks like the previous owner has tried to address the problem as there are various components that have been recently cleaned including the Throttle Housing and the Engine ECU.

I have been informed that a replacement ECU is required but the problem I have is that the current ECU which is giving me the limp mode issue has no part number, perhaps its reconditioned, but the diagnostics have returned the following -

MARELLI 4TV 9449 Part No 036 906 034 KC When I try to source this part it is not very common and I get information telling me it is compatible for a VW Polo, Seat Ibiza, Skoda Fabia and I am thinking someone replacing this previously may have used the wrong part.

Looking online the information I get suggests that the part should be a MARELLI 4MV Part No 036 906 034 DS.

Finally to the point can anyone please give me the correct Engine ECU part I should be looking for a 2002 Leon 1.6S Petrol, I would be grateful for any help as I have had the car for a month now and it has spent only a day or two on the road.

Jim :confused::cry:

Maybe call your local SEAT garage and have them check via your VIN or Number plate - What should be the correct ECU and part number for your car?

Many thanks for the advice mate. I kind of fell out with the local Seat dealer but will get in contact with an alternative and pose the question, will let you know how I get on.

A very undertanding Seat Dealership (makes a change) has come back to me and made an exception by giving out a part number. He has confirmed that the Engine ECU I need is a Marelli 4MV Part No 036 906 034 DS. Now I just have to look for one, will probably create a new post to seek advice from the guys in the Forum.

Thanks a lot for your input mate it was your solution that came good.

just seen on on a well known auction site il pm you as it has the exact part no. differnt car but same part no mate

Sorry offit saw this in email notification and searched ebay for his part number.

Saw this e-mail notification online last week thought it was reasonably priced so sent a communication asking if it was in working order but never got any reply which made me a bit nervous, need to give him a phone and speak direct.

Thanks for your help LEE69

Please let me make my suggestion before someone shouts about me mentioning someone they don't like on here. It's a genuine suggestion to get the OP back on the road at the cheapest possible cost

Really appreciate the advice mate but unfortunately the ECU I have in the car is the wrong part and I believe this is contributing to the car problem. Virdi gave me the advice to go to the dealer thats how I now know the correct part number. Once sourced I believe I can get the VAG COM aspect addressed locally.

Thanks for your input mate much appreciated.

No worries mate, MARELLI 4MV Part No 036 906 034 DS is definately the correct version for your car if it's a 1.6, 16v BCB engine.
Bear in mind what I've posted if you can't get any joy with VAGCOM, all I know is that it wasn't possible to sort out my replacement ECU of the same part number with VAGCOM.
Mike

EDIT CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY MY POST OFFERING ADVICE HAS BEEN DELETED???????????????? I thought the whole idea of a forum was to help fellow members out by offering help and suggestions to keep the costs down for everyone concerned???????????

2002 car might not need the skc number, so it's a simple vag com install.
Need to check with vag com and on the ross tech site http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer

Mine was a 52 plate 2002, and it couldn't be done with VAGCOM. We had to retrieve the SKC number before anything could be done.

Mike.....

if the car has IMMO2 you can do it with vagcom, if the car has the new IMMO3 then you need the SKC yes.

how to see if you have IMMO 2 or IMMO 3: like LEE69 have linked to rosstech wiki site, you look with vagcom, Select the Instrument Cluster (17).. if you se only the 14 digit Immobilizer ID Number, then its a IMMO2 car, if you se the 14 digit Immobilizer ID Number AND the 17 digit vin mumber you have a IMMO 3 car.

ah okies, thanks for that info lee69, nah it aint mine, i just ebayed the part no :)
