Not been on here for a while but need some help. Some T**T reversed into me at speed and the love of my life got written off and am pretty sure is classified as Cat D now.

She has been lovingly repaired by a body shop (at great expense) and I am going to put her on the market but I have been hearing/reading that even though there is nothing wrong with my car as all damage was cosmetic only to the front end that I may loose up to 25% of the value of my car due to being a cat d.

Is this correct?

Cheers

You could do a HPI on it to be sure. As I understand it CAT D = Damage to the value of £2000 or less. CAT C = Damage to the value of over £2000. Anything recorded against it and you will lose 25% or more on the sale price.

Cat d is minor damage where insurance decides not to repair due to costs exceeding value of car.

Cat c is more structural damage.

A cat c/d car is usually valued 65-70% of the value of an undamaged example.

If insurance paid to repair the car it won't be any category.

It might be worth less but if you bought it off the insurance cheap and fixed it you should have money left over so selling cheaper won't matter so much!!
It's a shame as cat d cars normally have very little damage and they get fixed but being classes as written off kills the value.
