Has any one replaced the standard head unit for a 03 LC?

Can any one give me some Tips as im going to give it a go 2mo,
Like things to look out for or even just the best way of getting the bugger out :)

Am also going to install a active sub in the back and have not looked for the best way to get the Amp power cable to the battery? Should be Fun?:wtf:

Cheers

Also where the best place to get hold of a Face plate for the new head unit?
Thanks All!

You remove the headunit with two tabs supplied with the car. If you haven't got these use a coat hangar it works fine. One in each slot at the side of the stereo and use them to slide it out.

Faceplate from autoleads. I know bass junkies sell them and I've seen them on ebay in the past.Good luck.

Or go to Halfords and buy the 'Euro' removal tools. Might even be badged as Audi removal tools. Handy things to have and only cost a few £. Plus absolutely no chance of damaging the dash which is made of very soft plastic.

Right, admittedly I've yet to try the "coat hanger" route, but the proper keys (popped into local dealer) are not releasing the stereo.

Dealer dude reckons that someone has had the stereo out in the past & "messed up" the mech.

If anyone can suggest any other possible routes...checked the Info Base (double din install doc), but that needs the stereo out to remove the dash trim :(

Will try the cost hanger when I get home from work, and see if thats any joy.

Cheers...

Please don't think I'm insulting your intelligence, it's just that when people say to remove it from the side some head units literally do have the release holes at the side of the unit. On the aura they are at the bottom towards each side.

Basically you've tried using something like these:

In these circled holes?

I take it they slide in but you are not getting them to 'bite' on anything to pull it out?

Sometimes you'll find you need to push them all the way in, pull them into the centre of the stereo (towards each other) and then pull the unit out like that. Once the keys click in place it will be very solid.

No worries...totally understand...work in IT & have had many "coffee holder broken" convo's over the phone

The Seat service guy tried with his stereo keys, with no joy hence the need for alternatives...

Will have another go tonight, found a thread that mentioned cut down credit-cards (might as well cut it up save the misses getting her mits on it [B)] )

No probs...although maybe you can help me?...I have two coffee holders, but one is directly above the other so if I have coffee already sitting in the lower holder, when I open the one above it spills the one below...a very poor design I feel...

Thats easy...

Just drink espresso, and use the bottom holder for that...and normal coffee in the top one :funk: [B)]

If you have to use an adaptor be careful when you slide the headunit back in cos there ain't much room behind it. It will fit put it takes more pressure than feels right.

Right...stupid question...don't suppose that the headunit is physically attached at the back of the slot...tried the credit-card method, and no joy...get about 5mm travel back/forward, but just won't release.

I know it's prob a stupid question, but just feel like it's "attached" elsewhere!

It's not bolted in no - it should just 'unclip' then slide out. I don't recall mine being particularly tight ..... there's a chance the wiring is snagged behind the dash though. Have you tried wiggling it at the front so that the back of the radio moves about?
