Back to this forum after a few years.
My son and I saw an immaculate 54plate TDI FR 5 dr, with full service history, cambelt and pump done last in 2013, serviced by a VAG specialist, with just ONE owner!

No signs of rust anywhere, including the wings.
I drove it and it seemed fine, scanned with VCDS latest version and no faults showing.

Looks like the front seats were the only seats used, the inside was like new with minimal wear, if any. Bodywork was excellent, with just a few marks around the door handles, and a little chip on the bonnet.

was driven home last night, got 2 miles from dealer and -- son was at 3000 rpm, and there was a loud bang, from the engine, black smoke from exhaust, engine running very rough and sounding very "throaty". There also seemed to be some black smoke coming from the lhs or rhs , not sure which, front of engine.

Got towed back to dealer who is looking at it today

Any ideas what this could be?

My son has not had much luck recently with his polo being written off !

It is deffinitly something turbo related as 3000 is when the turbo really kicks in, could be something as simple as a damaged hose or worst case it is the turbo but it is not likely as you get white smoke more than anything on gear changes with a blown turbo

I suspect as the others do it will be a blown hose. It has happened to me and it makes a hell of a bang like a balloon poping. Then you lose power with loads of smoke out of the exhaust, not a pleasent experience especially with a new car but hopefully it will be confirmed as that and is an easy fix which the garage should be able to sort for you.

Top marks, you are all correct!!

It was a boost hose from intercooler, the metal clips failed, so they have ordered a new hose, should be here tmrw.
The dealer was very apologetic and really went out of his way to ensure we are happy - advising his mechanics to have a good look over and more test driving. Even threw in three months warranty too, with repairs up to £500 covered.
No doubt I will be returning to this forum again once the ibiza is finally here!
Thanks for your help guys

Well, finally got car home last night, and all good.
Got some catchin up to do on this forum now....
