the battery in my rcl key fob recently packed in, so being a simple task and armed with the knowledge that anything in the world can be fixed with a hammer, a 10mm spanner and a can of strongbow i set about replacing the battery.

needless to say i made a hash of it and broke the chip clean off the circit board, with the dealer quoting £130 for a new key i got a second hand one of internet.

i have tried programming it to the car using the instructions in the owners manual to no avail.

i have noticed that the original unit is a hella fob, whereas the second hand one is a seimens unit, i assume that this is why it wont work, even though the fobs work on the same frequency?

if anyone (without highlighting how i managed to foul up such a simple task!!) has any ideas how i can get this fixed without being fleeced by the dealer it would be much appreciated!!

Hi mate, i bought a 3 button flip key from ebay, changed out the transponder with my original key and programmed it as per the instructions in car handbook :D start to finish in about 40 mins.

i have bought a vw three button flip key i was just wondering as i only have two keys one remote and the other just the normal key is it possible to take the transponder out of the remote one and put in the flip key and still program them
