Hi I know there are plenty of threads on keys and a diy but I'm still left a bit confused. My car came with one key so I'm after a spare and I've been quoted £120 to 140 from a car key locksmith.

On the diy guide it sounds as simple as
1. buying a blank key £20
2. getting it cut
3. Programming the key by putting the new key in the lock with the other in the ignition as following a process.

Is this correct or will it need something like VCDS to programme it? If I need VCDS can I do this on the free lite version?

For point 1 would this blank key work?

Thanks

Your almost right, the main cost will come from programming the transponder chip to your car.
Getting the key and getting it cut is the easy bit

To add a key (might as well add a flip key) you need

1. Key + blade (cut)
2. SKC (PIN)
3. Virgin transponder (about £6)

VCDS cannot obtain the SKC if you don't have it. I have managed to get it with VAG Tacho in the past on my MK1. You then need to program both keys to the car at the same time as it will wipe the old one.

Hi all, does anyone know if you can recode a brand new RFID transponder chip using VCDS??
I don’t have VCDS - only a standard code reader - but looking at either buying it or a chip programming tool.
Cheers for any advice

Yes you can program the ID48 transponder chip with VCDS but only a new virgin transponder chip can be coded, you cannot code a chip from one car to another

Hi Homer, I'm trying to buy the VAG Tacho cable on ebay. There are many and I've been told that some doesn't work. Did you buy yours from ebay? any tip?

I bought a used Seat Ibiza 2012 (MK4) without spare key an I'm trying to make it by myself.

Thank you

I never had any luck with VAG Tacho, horrible buggy software. One of these things can read your PIN and program keys very easily. https://www.wish.com/product/5fe1de...0&campaign_id=6493229882&exclude_install=true}&guest=true&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhr2FBhDbARIsACjwLo1MlLzavgz7M9tFXLx6IH94c7XHTE9t675W6QvDBx-7OmDzhrKqa7AaAoC2EALw_wcB&share=web

Many thanks Matty.

The compatible vehicle list for this one is telling Ibiza UP to 2007. I don't understand this restriction only for the Ibiza... but mine is 2011 so I'm not sure if its going to work,

Thank you

I bought one many many years ago. I must admit it isn't the best software and it worked on the SEAT but not on a Passat of the same era. I think it was a KKL cable I bought and found the s/w online
