I'm sorry but its not different to the FR enough for me. A swift colour change of mirrors and a couple of body bits who really is going to know (SCN members aside!) . Don't get me wrong I don't want to see halfrauds style wings etc but just make it look well a bit more mean.
I know you are paying for the brakes, tweaks etc but its just missing something...

I shall however reserve judgement until I see it at the motorshow as the new Leon really doesn't photograph well IMO, especially with those silly publicity shots and SEAT insistance to take arty photos from low down angles which really don't help.

Power is good 167bhp/ton and torque is OK 220lbs usig the maximum weight as a guide but it is still pretty lardy.

I would expect it to use a different turbo on the 240hp, its unlike VW/Audi to overly stress components, it could well be a detuned version of the forthcoming Audi S3 260bhp engine.

All conjecture at the moment, im sure m0rk will be well on the case on Tuesday at the press launch, and find out as much as possible on the tech specs.

its the same engine from what i have seen on the audi forums as the new S3 ( which has been confirmed by Audi as 240Bhp)

In all honesty i prefer the FR, although i like the retrimmed mk5 standard R32 seats in the Cupra, they do look nice

So, Any idea on price cos that will be the decider for most, i would be hoping for 19k as a figure

now i look at it again, i personally think the Mk1 Leon Cupra R is the better car, and fingers crossed will drop in price too.

Good try seat, but you need to try harder.

I reckon they could leaving an opening for a potnetial Cupra R or cupra Sport or something

TOOOOO UNDER STATED!!!!!!!!

At first look, I must say I'm slightly disapointed in the look of the Cupra, It's very similar to the FR with only subtle looking differences and no splitter and side skirts to add to the sporty look, just hope it inspires more in the flesh!
The only plus I can see at the moment is the interior, especially those seats:drool:
I won't be rushing out just yet to chop mine in against one:p

The reflectors?

Are they reflectors then ? They look like holes going back into the arches or curving down which I guess would make them into a sort of diffuser.

Edit:
I think that black area at the back is OTT and a bit 'cheap' looking, it will probably look OK on a black car where it will blend in a bit but on all the other colours it stands out too much.

Confused.

From the article:

PERFORMANCE
Maximum speed (km/h) 244
Acceleration 0 - 100 km/h (s) 6.8

and:

Built and race-tuned by the same hands that prepare our cars for the WTCC, the Leon Cupra introduces a 240hp engine ready to soar at a heart-stopping 247km/h. And thanks to colour-coded red brake calipers you can bring it to an equally fast halt. You are looking at a machine whose overall performance, road holding and lowered front suspension will impress even the most demanding power buffs. Once they get their breath back.

The Leon Cupra delivers the most powerful engine ever installed in a SEAT production car. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 in only 6.4 seconds, and covering the first 1000 metres in only 26.4 seconds. Yet it returns impressive fuel consumption.

So which is the correct 0-100Km/h and top speed?

I will have another look at the pics but first impressions are that there is too little visual difference from the FR :( (all I saw was different wheels, oval exhaust and a couple of bits of the front bumper painted black).

Sorry if I sound a bit negative but I am more than a little disappointed with it.

I had been half thinking about switching to a new cupra now that mine is out of warranty, but the new one just doesn't do it for me. When I saw a my first picture of an LCR I knew that I had to have one - and I am not getting this from the Cupra. I still love the looks of the Mk1 and I don't think it looks too dated. OK, so the handling and engine on the new one are better - but at the end of the day these aren't a good enough reason to trade in.

I might be spending a bit of cash on mine now though :)

It's kind of a bit tame, styling wise. But when you look at it as a whole it "works".

Quite a lot of torque for a 240 bhp motor though

Interior looks nice, brakes are fecking mahoosive. I'll have to get quite a deal to get a new Cupra...

I do hope it's a detuned BHZ :), or maybe the BHZ isn't going to be 260. Who knows...

I was speaking to someone today who works at Crewe, apparently theres a yello A3 with flared arches making a "very nice noises" been seen going out/coming back from night-time test muleing. This was a while back, starting around xmas.

Edit: just read the supercopa launch report - 300bhp. The mk1 supercopa was 250 vs a road going remapped of 260-270 so hopefully the cupra is a detuned BPX and has plenty extra to come...

not too keen either :(

its nice that its more modern and has a better chassis etc but although it has an extra 15bhp and 12lb/ft over the LCR it weighs a bit more too so power to weight is pretty much the same

was toying with the idea of trading in to get the new cupra or going big turbo, looking more towards BT now

wonder if they'll release a special edition late next year, something like 260bhp as mentioned before with a nice bodykit like the aero and a LSD or ATB diff

The seats and the alloy wheels of the New Leon Cupra are amazing!

The Mk1 Cupra is totally outdated compared to the New Leon Cupra.

Let's see its price, though.

I like it, love the seats inside but I was hoping the wheels would be a bit more different.

Will be better in Silver and Black rather than yellow.

I think FR owners will be out with the black sticky vinyl on the bumper, spray the mirrors and de-badge and except the brembo's you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference.

On the FMIC I guess it's like the Golf GTi one where Forge have struggled to better the OEM version, infact all forge do is add a small extra FMIC at the base of the existing for future BT applications.

Have to say AndyB's original artwork was pretty darn close back in April 2004 :worship:

Its definately growing on me but I still dont think it looks as good as the old LCR.:( As discussed if this is the S3 motor just mapped down you can bet 300hp is on the books with just a map, then the fun begins  :drive2:

Don't know why we've been speculating

as soon as they launched the new Leon they showed us exactly what the Leon Cupra would look like

leon05_01.jpg

Wheels, black mirrors, black grill bit, different bumper to initial launch models, the rear bumper is the same

All excited tho to see one in the flesh
